Walking along the Yacon River was quite an experience. The river's current was swift, and I observed its movement from a motorboat. The vibrant autumn colors along the banks were stunning. Although it was labeled as hiking, it felt more like trekking. I enjoyed the atmosphere and views, especially at the ruins from the gold rush, even though I eventually turned back.
Everything was outstanding, from the stunning scenery to the delicious food made with care—I especially enjoyed the bison hamburgers. Manuela was incredibly helpful, answering all my questions well before my arrival and even met me at the airport when my plans changed. I was fortunate to witness the auroras, and she even lent me her tripod. Whether you’re traveling solo or with others, the atmosphere feels like family and it’s truly a journey of self-exploration. I will certainly return, as I felt at home, surrounded by the things I love. If you enjoy dogs, don't hesitate to share your experience in Whitehorse with them. This was a 5-diamond experience. I have some photos on Instagram @makyvontravel.
Our trip was filled with appreciation as we journeyed from Vancouver, USA, to White Horse Town to celebrate our ninth wedding anniversary. Staying in a cottage surrounded by snow, we looked up on Christmas Eve to witness joyful lights. On Christmas morning, we enjoyed observing many wild animals while quiet snowflakes drifted from the sky, creating unforgettable memories.
From the moment we arrived at the Whitehorse airport, greeted by Jeff and his dog, Little One, it was clear that Muktuk Adventures truly embodies its motto, “A Place for People who Love Dogs.” The lodge is a charming off-the-grid log cabin that's both eco-friendly and cozy, providing the ideal setting for restful nights after witnessing the spectacular Aurora Borealis from the deck, with two friendly resident dogs by our side. Manuela's homemade food was abundant, healthy, and delicious, catering to our vegetarian needs effortlessly. The activities exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed an exhilarating sled dog ride filled with the dogs' infectious excitement as they eagerly raced off. It was heartening to see how much the owners care for their dogs; we even got involved in harnessing, feeding, and caring for the team. Later, we strolled to the Takhini River with Jeff and some non-working dogs, followed by an informative afternoon at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve led by our knowledgeable guide Manuela, who shared fascinating stories about the incredible arctic wildlife we had only seen in documentaries. The animals lived in a spacious, natural environment, safe for them and the visitors. Muktuk Adventures offers a heartfelt connection to the Canadian North, combining a love for dogs and nature with comfort and safety in a welcoming place that makes you wish to linger forever.
It's hard to know where to begin. The dogs at Muktuk are truly a highlight—happy, healthy, and well-loved. I had the unforgettable experience of training with the sled dogs. Canoeing on the Tahini River was another breathtaking moment; with no one around, I appreciated the fall colors, the water, and the wildlife. Beaver watching after dinner was intriguing and not to be missed. The Northern Lights were also visible, making those nighttime checks for them worthwhile. What sets Muktuk apart are Jeff and Maruela. They genuinely care about their dogs, the environment, and their guests. The food was excellent, and the service outstanding, offering a personal touch that feels far from corporate hotel experiences. I will be returning for sure. Thank you for such a memorable experience.
This place is incredible, and I can't thank Manuela and Geoff enough for their hospitality toward our group of six. They went above and beyond to accommodate us, and nothing felt too much trouble. They recognize each of the 130 dogs by name and bark. We enjoyed well-prepared meals three times a day, featuring produce from their own garden, and they even catered to dietary preferences, including gluten-free options. They provided airport transfers and went out of their way to show us Whitehorse when we arrived. Working with the dogs was definitely the highlight of our stay. Unfortunately, we missed the northern lights, but that's beyond anyone's control. It was a fantastic environment to relax, bonding over board games and conversations without distractions from TV. Thank you both so much, Manuela and Geoff.
The experience felt like returning home with 127 happy faces wagging their tails, all eager to make you feel welcome. Manuela and Jeff were incredibly helpful and caring, and the lodge itself was both comfortable and relaxing.
I had an unforgettable experience riding the ATV with the dogs and canoeing on the breathtaking Takhini River. Manuela and Jeff truly make you feel like family. With over 100 well-trained, charming dogs, I left feeling like I was part of their group.
This is a superb destination for dog lovers and those who enjoy outdoor activities. The accommodations are very clean and comfortable, and the activities are well-organized. The food is simply fantastic. We felt at home throughout our stay and intend to return.
Muktuk offers an incredible experience that truly brings your dreams to life. The tours are well-organized, encompassing all you can do in the area. - We enjoyed dog sledding through the snowy forest, learning about the dogs' unique roles and behaviors. - There was time to feed and pet the dogs, each with their own personality, all charming and friendly. - The natural reserve was filled with diverse wildlife; in just one day, we spotted goats, moose, elks, caribou, foxes, ground squirrels, lynxes, and muskoxen. - Cozy evenings by the river with a fire were delightful. - The views from the riverbank were breathtaking during the day. - Witnessing the Northern Lights was an unforgettable experience; we hoped to see them and were rewarded early in the morning. Manuela took professional photos of us under the lights, spending hours in the cold to capture stunning memories. - Observing how low the sun is during winter, even at midday, was fascinating; I had never experienced that before. Manuela and her husband were wonderfully welcoming, meeting us at the airport. Manuela's cooking was exceptional, far better than any restaurant meal I've had. Our evenings were warm and intimate, with a cozy fire in their charming wooden house, tea in hand, sharing wonderful stories about the dogs and life in the North, along with some sweet, gentle dogs. The house was comfortable, with hot showers and a clean, welcoming atmosphere enriched with care for their guests. I highly recommend Muktuk and definitely plan to return!
