Two evenings of wildlife viewing and Northern Lights observation from Whitehorse, featuring visits to the Wildlife Preserve and Aurora Centre.
This tour over two evenings explores the wildlife and natural beauty surrounding Whitehorse, the capital of Yukon. You'll travel outside the city to the Aurora Centre for optimal Northern Lights viewing, enjoying the spectacle beside a cozy wood stove or campfire.
During the day, visit the Wildlife Preserve to spot and photograph various species like Dall sheep, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and even moose. This is an excellent opportunity for photographers and nature enthusiasts to observe Yukon's wildlife in their natural habitat. On your free days, optional activities such as winter sightseeing, shopping, and local touring are available.

Pascal was welcoming, supportive, and very professional. He truly enhanced our experience by assisting with camera settings to capture great photos. The viewing station was ideal, allowing us to warm up inside while still enjoying ample time outdoors to observe the lights.
Arctic Range provided very poor service during our experience. We rented winter clothing for over $250 CAD each, but my wife's snow boots didn't fit. The tour guide, Leo, took us to the store where the clothes were rented, which was 40% cheaper, but it was closed for two of the three days we had rented the gear. Leo said there was nothing we could do, and on the third day, the store was still closed. When we raised our concerns at the office, Jessica mentioned we should have informed them sooner, but we did so through Leo. There was a lot of blame-shifting between them. Eventually, they opened the store for us, and we were able to swap the boots. I typically write positive reviews for good service, but this is the first time I've felt compelled to leave a negative review because of the poor customer service and attention. There are definitely better tour options available; I would recommend exploring those if you seek a quality experience.
I participated in several tours with this agency, and here's my review of each one: *Auroras* It's important to realize that auroras are a natural occurrence and can't be guaranteed. I booked five days for sightings, and we were lucky to see them on three, which made it all worthwhile. There were times when they weren't visible, but that's beyond the agency's control. The tour starts at a remote center, accessible via the agency's buses, and lasts about an hour. Dress warmly as the night can get quite cold. They provide a cabin, a tipi, and a yurt for warmth, along with hot drinks like coffee, tea, and chocolate, plus cookies. In the cabin, you can find board games and watch films or documentaries about Yukon. I spent most of my time outside since the auroras can appear and vanish quickly. I suggest bringing a small flashlight for walking on the snowy terrain, as there is little outdoor lighting near the cabin. Also, keep in mind that auroras vary in visibility (the Kp index 0 to 9) and may not be seen by the naked eye at lower levels, though cameras can capture them. The guides offer a photo service, so you can purchase those later, and they can help set up your phone for better pictures. The aurora tour is definitely worth it, and I recommend booking as many days as you can to boost your chances of seeing them. *Wildlife Reserve* It’s essential to understand that this is not a zoo; many animals are rescues and have large enclosures, so they might not be easily visible. Patience is necessary to spot them. The paths are lovely and wonderful for nature photography. There's a small store selling postcards, mugs, sweatshirts, and stuffed animals at reasonable prices. I suggest getting the stuffed animals there as I didn’t see them elsewhere during my trip. The tour is conducted on the agency's bus, with some walking sections, and it’s peaceful, especially with the beautiful snowy landscapes. Both excursions are highly recommended for anyone wanting to enjoy the stunning scenery of Whitehorse. Arctic Range truly delivers excellent service.
