The location is stunning and packed with history, but the guide was disappointing and the experience felt very overpriced. I wouldn't choose this option again.
The tour was quite enjoyable, and the guide was very well-informed. However, I can't fault the guide for the cold weather. My Vernon was undergoing construction, which would have been useful to know ahead of time; that’s my only complaint.
Mt. Vernon offers a remarkable historical experience, effectively transporting visitors back to 1790. The attention to detail is impressive, and the knowledgeable and friendly docents enhance the visit. Additionally, the crab cake served at the restaurant was quite tasty.
The driver provided us with a wealth of information about the local region, especially Alexandria and Mt. Vernon. We felt well taken care of throughout the entire day. Great experience!
The driver was quite knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor, which I appreciated. However, I was not impressed with the van's condition; several seats lacked seat belts and the door was difficult to close. I was in one of those seat belt-less seats and felt like I might hit the roof a few times. Additionally, it was off-putting that he expected tips from every group when they got off, even directly asking a couple, "no tip?" Given the cost of the tour, I felt it was not worth it for the quality of the van. I did enjoy Mt. Vernon, though.
Robert displayed extensive knowledge and shared plenty of information about various sights throughout the tour. We strongly recommend participating in this experience.
This tour is a fantastic way to spend a day near Washington, DC. Our driver, Robert, was excellent, and the guides at Mount Vernon were knowledgeable. It’s a beautiful and intriguing location.
Visiting Mt. Vernon was truly rewarding. In today's divided society, it was uplifting to learn about someone who prioritized his country. Exploring the mansion gave great insight into life during the 1780s and 1790s. They provide user-friendly headsets that enhance the understanding of colonial life. The exhibits offered important perspectives on the nearly 300 enslaved individuals who worked at the estate. My experience highlighted both the admirable and troubling aspects of our patriotic founding father, who was also a slave owner. There's a new interactive exhibit set to open in 2026. For those who appreciate history, plan on spending around 3 hours there.
This tour was fantastic! It offered a wonderful mix of experiences. Mount Vernon was remarkable, and I would have loved to spend more time there. Afterward, we explored some of Alexandria, VA, before heading back to DC, where we drove around and discovered various attractions. Robert was exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly, enhancing the overall experience.
This tour offered a straightforward and pleasant way to explore Mt. Vernon independently while someone else handled the driving. With a small group of 16, we traveled in a comfortable van. Our guide, Robert, shared a wealth of information about Washington, much of which was new to us. He took us to the entrance and secured our tickets for the mansion and grounds tour, then gave us three hours to explore on our own, meeting at the gate later. This timeframe is sufficient to take the mansion tour and see most of the grounds, although it may be challenging for those with limited mobility due to the large area. The mansion is still being renovated, but the completed work is impressive, along with the grounds, outbuildings, tomb, and gardens. It felt very authentic, and I could easily envision George and Martha enjoying the view of the river from the veranda. The return drive passed through historic Old Town Alexandria, another area well-preserved, and we plan to stay in an historic property there on our next visit. The tour's cost covers the entrance to the grounds ($21 per person) and the timed entry to the mansion tour ($25 per person). Given the expenses of gas or an Uber, along with the stress of navigating DC traffic, this was a worthwhile value for the price.
