Opting for an early morning departure at 7:30 is highly recommended for ocean trips, as it increases the chances of encountering dolphins and rays with fewer boats around. On this occasion, we received a message to delay our departure to 8:00 due to weather, which allowed my daughter to grab an extra 20 minutes of sleep. Randy is excellent at monitoring the weather, wind, and waves to ensure a great experience. We spotted many dolphins near the inlet, so our family remained close to the shoreline this time, unlike our previous trip that took us about three-quarters of a mile out. The moment my wife saw a dolphin surface just 10 feet away was unforgettable. We had several dolphins swimming close to us at various points during our paddle. Adding a little yoga on the boards under the sunny sky made it an incredible outing. This always stands out as a highlight of our visits to Virginia Beach, and we look forward to the next time.
Having lived in Virginia Beach for three decades, I knew that our family reunion this summer had to include Rudee Inlet Stand Up Paddle. Randy made our experience unforgettable with his guidance during our stand-up paddle boarding session. Our group of five adults and two kids, aged 7 and 11, had varying levels of experience, with only one adult having paddled before, and that was fifteen years ago. The booking process for our 90-minute session was straightforward, and Randy communicated effectively via text to confirm details. He greeted us at the parking lot near Big Sam’s and quickly warmed up to my niece and nephew, giving them each a RIS’UP T-shirt. After a brief tutorial, we were ready to paddle. My nephew, being only seven, partnered with Randy for safety. I was impressed by Randy's ability to teach my niece and the adults how to navigate their boards. We opted for the flatwater session and paddled through Rudee Inlet channel to Lake Wesley, close to Croatan Beach. Randy organized a short yoga session, then suggested we explore the ocean to see if we could find any dolphins. We were lucky enough to spot one swimming nearby. He also brought us to a reef filled with pelicans for my niece and nephew to search for hermit crabs. On our way back, we returned to Lake Wesley, where Randy captured pictures and video of us jumping off our boards. During our time on the water, he took over 200 photos and videos, which he airdropped to us after our adventure. The snapshots from that beautiful August morning will remain cherished memories for my family. Time flew by while we were having fun, and Randy generously extended our session to nearly two hours at no extra charge. I wholeheartedly recommend Rudee Inlet Stand Up Paddle to both locals and visitors.
Paddleboarding with Randy was an incredible experience. After years of wanting to try SUP, I finally joined some friends and it surpassed my expectations. As first-timers, we quickly felt at ease, even attempting yoga poses for photos, and Randy encouraged us to explore the ocean waves. The highlight was spotting the manatee at Rudee Inlet, a dream come true. I highly recommend Randy and look forward to booking another session during my next visit to VA Beach.
This was a fantastic experience, perfect for both tourists and locals seeking something enjoyable and distinctive along the Oceanfront. My boyfriend and I booked a two-hour stand-up paddle session with Randy. Although we were a bit anxious at first, he quickly made us feel at ease with his engaging conversation and knowledge about birds, along with his humor. There were plenty of breaks throughout the activity. Randy captured numerous photos, and we even tried yoga on the paddle boards. We appreciate it and look forward to returning next year.
