Two-hour guided kayak tour — glide through glowing waters in Mosquito Bay, observing the bioluminescent effects created by dinoflagellates with every paddle stroke.
This two-hour guided kayak tour takes you into the bioluminescent waters of Mosquito Bay, where the light emitted by tiny organisms, known as dinoflagellates, creates an enchanting experience. You will paddle through the water and see how your movements awaken glowing trails, transforming the bay into a spectacle of light.
For those returning to Puerto Rico via the late ferry, consider booking the 7:00 PM tour on Monday to Friday to ensure a smooth journey. Be sure to secure your ferry tickets early at the Ceiba ferry terminal to guarantee your seat, as tours may require a minimum number of participants to proceed. It's advisable to travel light and bring only essentials for your kayaking adventure.
Reviews
We had a wonderful time on the trip and truly enjoyed ourselves.
The bioluminescence tour was outstanding. Visiting during a moonless night is ideal for planning your trip. Enjoying the clear sky and stargazing added to the experience as well.
This was truly an unforgettable experience. We spent more time in the water than we anticipated, and our guide provided exceptional explanations. The only downside was a couple in our group who were intoxicated and reckless while kayaking, which posed a risk to others. Besides that, it was fantastic. It's best to go on a cloudy day or during a new moon for a darker sky. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
I tried to get a refund but couldn't reach anyone until the day of the scheduled activity. Viator and the tour both pointed fingers at each other regarding the refund. The tour offered a free excursion if we returned to Puerto Rico, but we live too far away for that to be feasible. There was confusion, as neither Viator nor the tour disclosed that someone would be left on an island an hour away with a later tour. Overall, the experience was chaotic from beginning to end, and I will not use Viator again.
The tour was organized well, but I found the guides hard to understand. I wished for more information about the bioluminescence bay and its history. Overall, it felt too pricey for the experience offered.
The experience in the Bay was lovely and well-organized. I would have preferred more time to paddle independently instead of staying connected most of the time, but I understand the need due to the high winds and varying skill levels. The Bay was beautiful, and the stars were stunning. Our guide, Timon, was fantastic, providing great conversation and a wonderful sense of humor.
This was an incredible experience. It's important to check the lunar cycles and weather conditions when booking. Aim to go during a new moon or when there’s no moonlight.
We had an incredible experience on this trip with our four kids, who are aged 9 to 15. Everything was well-planned, and our guide provided insightful explanations about the microorganisms. He even brought a light-blocking cover for our kayaks, which enhanced our experience significantly. For the best results, choose a night with heavy cloud cover and little moonlight, as the glow was more vibrant when the moon was hidden. This was a fantastic item checked off our bucket list.
Avoid this tour altogether. The customer service is terrible and quite inconvenient. The ferry ride to the island takes 1.5 hours, and they don’t inform you that the last ferry returns at 9:30 pm, while their earliest slot is at 8:00. Booking this means you could be stranded on the island for the night!
The bay was fantastic, and the team ensured I felt secure while kayaking in complete darkness, which was a completely new experience for me.
