Two hours by clear kayak — explore the bioluminescent bay and its unique ecosystem under the stars.
This two-hour kayak tour takes you through the enchanting waters of Vieques' bioluminescent bay. Paddle in fully clear kayaks that offer an unobstructed view of the glowing waters as you navigate through this unique ecosystem.
The tour focuses on both the bioluminescence phenomenon and the overall aquatic environment. Be prepared for a magical evening under the stars, where the natural light show comes alive with every paddle stroke. It’s recommended to wear comfortable clothing and be mindful of the local wildlife.
Reviews
The tour was fantastic and packed with information; we truly enjoyed ourselves. Witnessing the bioluminescence was simply astonishing.
This tour feels like a scam unless you visit during the right lunar phase. I accept responsibility for not realizing that bright moonlight would diminish the bioluminescence, but we saw none at all. Be cautious and avoid spending your money unless you are certain about the moon conditions. This was an expensive mistake, and if my experience can help someone else save money, it will be worthwhile. The company did not provide any prior warnings and was willing to take our payment despite knowing there was nothing to witness.
I wanted to have a good experience, but unfortunately, there was a full moon during our tour, which meant we couldn't see any bioluminescence. I realize this is beyond anyone's control, but it seems unfair to run tours during a full moon when visibility is guaranteed to be poor. If the company is aware that nothing will be seen, they shouldn't charge full price. The staff were nice, but it feels dishonest to collect our money knowing the conditions are not favorable.
The excursion was called off due to the brightness of the full moon, which made it difficult to observe the bioluminescence at night.
Transportation was quite disorganized due to the parade, but I managed to join an earlier tour. It was a neat experience, though I'm not certain I'd want to do it again. I would recommend it to friends and family.
This experience was truly worthwhile. The meeting point is easy to find, leading you to a bus that travels along a rough road. The warm, calm bay is perfect for those new to kayaking, with two people in each kayak. During the 8:15 tour, it felt like we had the bay all to ourselves. The sky was filled with stars, and every ripple in the water shimmered like diamonds. Clear kayaks are essential for this trip. Our guide, Carlos, was both knowledgeable and encouraging, enhancing our experience by attracting jumping fish with his light.
We were misled by Trip Advisor, which listed this as something to do in Puerto Rico without mentioning that it required a flight. Unfortunately, we ended up losing our money due to a last-minute booking.
This is a must-do during your visit to the island! If your main accommodations aren't on the island, consider staying overnight; it will be worthwhile. Try to go on the darkest day of your trip for the best experience; a new moon night will enhance the scenery compared to a full moon. The tour guides were friendly and accommodating, ensuring everyone kept up at their own pace. You definitely won't regret this adventure.
The glowing water was an incredible sight to behold. However, reaching the kayak launch was challenging, with a rough ride down an unmaintained dirt road filled with deep holes. The trek involved walking barefoot through muddy areas. If you're paddling with a child who struggles to paddle, be prepared for a workout to keep pace, as every kayak has two paddlers and moves quickly. The glow was a unique experience, but getting there was quite the effort. The guide was wonderful and very patient.
The guide was incredibly friendly and humorous, enhancing the overall experience. He ensured that everyone was enjoying themselves and brought a lot of laughter to the ride.
