One-hour guided kayak tour at night — glide through Puerto Rico's bioluminescent Mosquito Bay, observing glowing water with each paddle stroke.
This one-hour nighttime kayak tour in Mosquito Bay allows you to paddle through one of the brightest bioluminescent bays in the world. Each stroke lights up the water with dazzling blue hues created by abundant dinoflagellates. The tour is guided by knowledgeable leaders, ensuring safety and enjoyment while you enjoy the natural wonder of the bay under a starry sky.
Meeting point is at the Green Store at 6:15 PM for the first trip or 8:00 PM for the second. Ensure you purchase a round trip ferry ticket to Vieques prior to your arrival, as accommodations may be necessary if you're taking the later tour. Remember to arrange taxi transport back to the ferry terminal if you plan to return the same night.

The tours that took place after nightfall were more enjoyable. The guide was attentive and ensured our safety. I really loved the experience.
The trip was beautiful but ultimately disappointing. Despite planning months ahead for a dark night, we arrived only to find the tour was overbooked. Traveling with our daughter, we opted not to reschedule and ended up cramped in a single kayak without a clear bottom. As we are all nearly 6 feet tall, it felt precarious, and there were many boats making navigation challenging. I would consider trying again but would book directly with a guide to ensure we have a suitable kayak.
The experience was disappointing. There was barely any bioluminescence visible, and we were all placed under a plastic tarp to see it. This feels more like a budget operation.
I highly recommend this tour. Our guide was wonderful, and despite the bright moon that night, they used a cover to showcase the beautiful glowing microorganisms. It's truly something you need to experience for yourself.
The tour was fantastic. Our guide made sure that despite the almost full moon, we could witness the bioluminescence thanks to his inventive approach. If possible, it's better to schedule on a new moon for optimal visibility. He also shared insights about the bay's entrance, the water's salinity, the science behind bioluminescence, and identified planets and constellations in both English and Spanish. The kayaks were functional, and we were all given life jackets and paddles. You need to be able to paddle, steer, and stop your kayak, but our guide maintained a slow enough pace for even the beginners to manage.
The experience was truly exceptional. I highly recommend it. We had a nearly full moon that was visible, but when clouds obscured its light, the surroundings became incredibly vibrant. If possible, try to go when the moon is less bright; the darker conditions enhance the experience.
What had the potential to be an amazing experience turned out to be quite disappointing. Our guide and the other staff offered minimal information and guidance. We were quickly moved in and out of the van and kayaks with very little interaction. I noticed other groups had guides who engaged more with their participants. We tried to ask some basic questions, but our guide seemed unable to answer them, possibly due to a language barrier. What little he did say included unnecessary criticisms of my well-behaved children, referring to them simply as “boy” and “girl.” After about 45 minutes, he vaguely mentioned a better spot that we wouldn't visit, without any further details. Overall, it was an odd experience that could have been much more enjoyable given the great setting. I would suggest considering a similar trip, but not with this company or our specific guide.
Experiencing the activity at Mosquito Bay was fantastic. I was truly mesmerized. Our guide, Martinez, was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and explained how the lights are visible. He was also very flexible and accommodating to our requests. I would highly recommend this experience.
The experience was very disappointing and felt unsafe. We initially booked the 8 PM time but were shifted to 6:30 PM. The crew lacked proper kayak and safety guidance, and their demeanor was poor. Rather than providing support in the dark and windy conditions, one instructor kept urging us to hurry, saying, “Move guys, we are getting late.” Additionally, my husband’s kayak seat became loose, and we didn't reach the bioluminescent bay. I would not suggest this tour for beginners; an electric boat tour would be a better option.
The water was gorgeous—not overly vivid, but certainly beautiful. The tour guides were wonderful, ensuring we felt comfortable and secure throughout the experience.
