Two hours guided kayak trip — explore the world's brightest bioluminescent bay at night in solid-bottom kayaks.
This guided kayak excursion takes you through the luminescent waters of Mosquito Bay, renowned as the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world. The tour lasts around two hours, and participants paddle solid and semi-clear bottom kayaks.
Departures are nightly at 7 PM and 9 PM, but note that tours are not available during full moons, when the glow is less visible. Children aged five and older can join the adventure with a parent or guardian, but a ticket is required for each participant. Keep in mind that Vieques is separate from mainland Puerto Rico, requiring either a ferry from Ceiba or a flight from San Juan or Ceiba to reach the island.

My experience was dreadful, and I highly advise against participating in the Vieques Kayak Bio Bay tour, particularly with our guide, Leonardo. Despite having a small group, we were left to paddle alone in the dark without any guidance. My friend and I managed to navigate back to the van, but a young couple lost their way completely. When I inquired if he would look for them, he said they had to find their own way back, and it was nearly midnight before he finally decided to search. Thankfully, everyone returned safely, but this could have easily led to a much worse outcome. To add to the discomfort, my friend and I discovered cockroaches inside the van while we waited, having to keep our feet up. This level of negligence and poor hygiene is unacceptable for an activity that relies on safety and proper guidance. I would not trust this company in the future.
The bay was stunning, but the tour guide was lacking. He provided only a brief overview and then let us paddle independently. One couple got lost, prompting a search by Leonardo, the guide. Additionally, we noticed cockroaches in the van that transported us. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. I recommend taking the tour with another operator.
The guide was very rude and disrespectful to both us and the other tourists on the tour. Additionally, the van we traveled in was poorly maintained; it was in bad condition and had cockroaches. This was not the experience I anticipated when I made the booking.
The van seemed a bit sketchy, and the guide was wearing a ski mask while he was loading things, which looked a bit odd. However, he was generally a nice guy.
This tour provided a fun, educational experience that felt unique and memorable. Our guide was outstanding—he was humorous, supportive, and ensured everyone's safety while enhancing our overall enjoyment.
Leonardo was incredibly helpful, warm, and knowledgeable. He provided us with detailed information throughout the tour and even assisted us in picking some mangoes from the trees at the end.
An excellent experience with an informed guide. Highly recommend this activity. Check the underside of the kayaks and wear clothes that can get wet. Leave the shoes behind due to the muddy path. Don’t forget to use bug spray. It was such a fantastic time that we even thought about returning later that night, though we couldn't.
This tour allows for deep personal engagement. You really explore everything on your own, making it a genuinely unique experience.
Initially, there was a rough patch when local law enforcement flagged our vehicle for lacking current registration, but our guide handled it well and found an alternate means of transport. Ultimately, my son and I had an incredible tour, highlighted by spotting a three-foot glowing stingray in the water.
It was not what we anticipated. I expected to see more natural luminescence without needing to put my hands or paddle in the water. The clear kayaks were interesting. Unfortunately, our guide's English was hard to understand, making it challenging to take pictures.
