We were initially curious why a 52-mile drive would take 5-6 hours, but after our tour, we understood that it could have taken even longer due to the abundance of sights and information. Starting at 9 am on a sunny fall day and concluding around 5 pm, we didn't even visit every stop. Our guide, whom we fondly referred to as "Bob," was enjoyable to listen to and gave precise directions. Some highlights included Quincy Mine, Eagle River Falls, JamPot, Eagle Harbor, and a detour through Lake Linden where we had lunch and admired a beautiful church. The most breathtaking part was Brockway Mountain. We were too exhausted to visit the Life Saving Museum or Fort Wilkins, but there's always a next time. We learned about pasties and enjoyed some excellent ones at Syl's Cafe in Ontonagon, MI, and Copper Pasty just over the border in Ashland, WI. Thanks to "Bob," we're now motivated to embrace more adventures, and we will definitely think about taking another audio driving tour.
The app provides GPS navigation, in-depth descriptions, and excellent images that facilitate easy navigation. Features like interactive maps and entertaining trivia about the area's mining history and natural beauty enhance the experience. Overall, it’s a convenient and valuable way to learn about Copper Country's distinctive heritage. Additionally, the tour allows for exploration with straightforward directions and captivating insights amid stunning scenery.
This tour offered an excellent opportunity to explore the region's history and natural beauty. The commentary was clear and engaging, making the experience enjoyable. It's an ideal choice for those who appreciate scenic drives and historical insights.
This experience is an excellent opportunity to discover the local history at your own speed. The tour guide provides insightful and engaging commentary; I would strongly endorse this tour.
While I encountered some technical issues, my experience was quite good overall. I got to see and do many things I wouldn’t have otherwise and learned a lot along the way. I'm glad I chose this tour as it truly enriched my time in Keweenaw.
This was a fantastic addition to our U.P. journey. We gained a lot of knowledge about the area's history. We were all thankful for the guidance of this knowledgeable gentleman, whose humorous comments kept us entertained.
We found this self-guided audio tour to be quite enjoyable, as it provided a solid overview of the Keweenaw Peninsula while allowing us to explore at our own pace. Downloading and setting it up was straightforward, and we appreciated the flexibility to complete it over two days while staying in Calumet. The narrator was engaging and easy to follow. However, we would have liked more information regarding the location of public restrooms, particularly in Copper Harbor, where options are limited. It would have been helpful if he had mentioned that restrooms are available at the visitors' center and its location. Overall, it was an effective and enjoyable use of our limited time.
Houghton is a fantastic destination with plenty to explore. To truly enjoy everything it has to offer, it's worth spending a few days there. I highly recommend it.
