Reviews
This trip is truly exceptional and I highly recommend it. The guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and full of enthusiasm. It was both relaxing and informative. Definitely worth every penny spent.
We had a fantastic day. We departed from our hotel at 7:30 AM with our guide Dinca Alin for the lengthy journey to Tulcea and the Danube Delta. The four-hour drive included both freeway and secondary roads, showcasing lush agricultural land filled with various crops, deciduous forests, and several towns. We noticed storks nesting on electricity poles and charming horse-drawn carts along the way. Alin’s friendly and humorous storytelling made the time fly by. Upon reaching Tulcea, we met our riverboat captain and set off to explore the vast delta, which spans about 5,000 square kilometers. We navigated through winding waterways lined with trees and reeds, as well as open lakes. We observed many birds, including herons, egrets, terns, cormorants, pelicans, and swans. Highlights included vibrant kingfishers, a majestic eagle in a tree, and numerous nesting cormorants and spoonbills. A visit to a fisherman's home for lunch was particularly memorable. We were warmly welcomed and served delicious fish soup with creamy garlic, tasty fish roe for our bread, along with fish, potatoes, and vegetables cooked in the soup. Then we enjoyed scrumptious fried fish, freshly caught by the family. After a lovely hour of eating and enjoying the ambiance while reclining in swing chairs, it was time to return to the mainland and head back to Bucharest. This tour was thoroughly enjoyable and worthwhile. Thank you, Alin, for a memorable experience.
The boat trip from Tulcea city to Mila 23 village was outstanding. Designed specifically for our group of 16 volunteers, we traveled in two motor boats with English-speaking guides from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. We made numerous stops along the channels, canals, and lakes to observe a variety of birds, including pelicans, swans, and herons, as well as the scenic water lilies and lush landscapes in June.
The three-day tour, which included bird watching and a visit to Letea, was exceptional. Our guide, Marius, provided great insights about the birds and the Delta's history. His English was impressive, and he even shared many names in German. The food in Letea was also remarkable. Overall, it was a perfect way to explore the Delta.
We spent three full days on birdwatching and photography tours from Mila. The boat ride from Tulcea was a remarkable experience as we navigated through small channels and lakes rather than the main river. Our guide had exceptional knowledge of the area and its wildlife, offering fascinating insights into the ecosystem's fragility and the threats it faces from human activities, which enriched our understanding of the tour. We largely enjoyed the time without encountering other boats or people, allowing us to focus on the unique natural surroundings. Everything was impeccably organized, and the attention to customer service was outstanding.
We are a couple with a young child, and our private trip was truly exceptional. From our initial interaction with Calina at the office, we received helpful and professional responses. The tour, led by our fantastic guide Iliuţa, was enriching. He was kind, knowledgeable, and attentive to our interests as well as our child's needs. The journey through pristine nature was beautiful and despite the cold, we felt warmth in our hearts; it was exhilarating and unlike anything we've experienced. Our hosts at the MILA23 hotel and in the village were wonderful, and the food was unforgettable—homemade local fish, pastries, Mamaliga, Gogoş, and wine were simply incredible. I highly recommend this private tour, as it allows you to choose your stops and enjoy the serene nature at your own pace. Discovering the Delta Dunării felt like an adventure crafted just for us, with a guide who shares stories without ever pushing anything on us. This is truly an experience to treasure for a lifetime.
We enjoyed a fantastic birding experience with a three-night stay in Mila 23 to explore the Delta and another three nights in Tulcea for the Dobrogea countryside. Our guide Marius and boatman Janut were exceptional at locating our desired species while ensuring the birds' welfare. Marius, who speaks English fluently, was dedicated to helping us recognize the field marks for accurate identification. The hotel in Mila 23 was charming and served delicious food, although the portion sizes were quite large. The accommodation in Tulcea was basic but clean and comfortable. Costs were transparently listed on the company’s website. While 221 euros per person per night was a bit of a splurge for us, we found the organization, knowledgeable guides, enjoyable company, and insights into Romanian culture made it worthwhile.
My wife and I went on an extraordinary trip to the Danube Delta with friends before a conference in Bucharest, organized by Ilie (apologies if that’s misspelled) and one of his driver guides. The photo tour highlighted the delta’s incredible biodiversity and is truly one of the world's most remarkable locations. Our guides were well-versed in the natural history of the area and were experts in capturing images of both migratory and resident birds. We stayed at a charming boutique hotel in Mila 23 that offered delightful family-style meals for our group. The only thing I regret is not bringing my best camera and that we didn't extend our stay.
Our stay in Mila 23 for fishing and delta excursions was wonderful. The organization was seamless, and the guides were both professional and friendly. The guesthouse run by Alexandra and Alexandru was cozy and served delicious local meals.
