Reviews
The bike ride began positively as we went through the bikes and took a test ride. We headed to the park for the guided e-bike tour, where the guide shared a lot of information about the desert and the local history. However, my frustration arose because he rode very quickly and didn’t keep the group together. While he was familiar with the park's paths, I was still getting used to the new e-bike and struggled to keep up. This was disconcerting, but it was manageable while it was still light out. Once the sun set, the last third of the ride became uncomfortable as my husband and I relied on our bike lights, which were inadequate in the dark. The guide was far ahead, and he made no effort to ensure the group stayed together. Navigating steep hills and curves in low visibility was challenging, and I didn't enjoy that part of the ride. If given the choice again, I would opt for a daytime tour to fully appreciate the landscape, and for sunsets, I would recommend driving through the park, where there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the view. Unfortunately, the guided bike tour didn't allow us to pause and watch the sunset, as we were focused on sticking to the two-hour schedule. Overall, I was disappointed; I expected a great experience, but the darkness and lack of guidance made it less enjoyable for me.
Carol was an excellent guide who ensured we were safe and well-informed. The bike ride was enjoyable, and the scenery was stunning.
This tour of the park on e-bikes was both enjoyable and informative. We rode along the 8-mile loop, and the e-bikes made it easy to navigate the hills, allowing us to focus on the scenery rather than exerting ourselves. Before we set off, all safety precautions were taken, including the provision of visibility harnesses and helmets, and we had ample time to learn how to operate the bikes. Our guide, James, was extremely knowledgeable about the park, its wildlife, and the surrounding area. He shared interesting insights at each stop along the way.
Jeff was an excellent guide, offering in-depth knowledge about the desert flora and fauna while ensuring our safety as we navigated the park on our e-bikes.
The sunset bike tour was truly remarkable. John, our guide, provided insightful information about the desert during our stops. It was both an educational experience and a lovely ride.
Carol did a fantastic job of explaining everything about the desert. The experience was truly worth it, and I had an incredible time.
The experience was fantastic. The guide was excellent, and the ride offered beautiful scenery. The stops were engaging. Overall, it was a wonderful time.
The sunset displayed a stunning orange hue, and we captured numerous photos. However, the final 15 minutes were spent cycling in darkness, with the last 5-7 minutes on a two-way traffic road. Despite having decent bike headlights and wearing reflectors, I felt unsafe, especially since our guide rode significantly ahead of us. Adjusting the trip's start and end times could easily resolve these safety concerns.
The natural surroundings are beautiful, and the equipment provider was helpful. However, the guide, Jeff, did not meet typical standards. He frequently criticized park staff and claimed they should work beyond typical hours. He made unsettling remarks about the dangers of the desert, joked about foreign tourists, and noted that Arizona became a state in the 1920s, unfairly blaming the Apache for a lack of culture. His political comments were also unwelcome. I raised my concerns about returning to the parking lot in the dark, but my worries were disregarded. It's a stunning area, but be cautious with Jeff, as his focus seems to be on himself rather than the participants.
I had great expectations for this guided e-bike tour, and it truly surpassed them. The scenery was stunning, and it was very enjoyable. Our guide, Carol, was exceptional. I highly recommend it.
