• Padmanabhapuram Palace, also referred to as Kalkulam Palace, is a palace from the Travancore period situated in Padmanabhapuram, within the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, India. It is owned and preserved by the government of Kerala. This palace predates Rambagh Palace in Rajasthan and may be one of the oldest palaces in India. The palace was built around 1601 CE by Iravi Varma Kulasekhara Perumal, who ruled Venad from 1592 to 1609. The Kerala Archaeology Department is responsible for its upkeep. The Padmanabhapuram Palace complex features various buildings: - Mantrasala; the King's Council Chamber - Thai Kottaram, built prior to 1550 - Nataksala; the Performance Hall - A four-storeyed mansion at the center of the complex - Thekee Kottaram; the Southern Palace. • Known as a popular tourist spot in India, it is celebrated for its distinctive ocean sunrises, sunsets, and moonrises, alongside the 41-metre (133 ft) Thiruvalluvar Statue and Vivekananda Rock Memorial located offshore. Kanyakumari, positioned at the southern tip of peninsular India, is surrounded by the Laccadive Sea on the west, south, and east, boasting a coastal line of 71.5 kilometers (44.4 miles) along three sides. The town is home to a temple dedicated to Goddess Kanyakumari (the virgin Goddess), from which the town derives its name.
