This incredible tour fulfilled a lifelong dream, showcasing the best of Turkey through the efforts of the guide, driver, and company owner. I’d rate it 5 stars if not for some disorganized communication that detracted a bit from the experience. Nonetheless, I highly recommend it to anyone interested in this unique area.
I had a very disappointing experience. Despite paying the full price for the trip, the company canceled just weeks before it was set to start. I received no communication from TripAdvisor or Eastern Turkey Tours. I feel the tour operators are untrustworthy, even though I was assured of my spot upon payment.
The Alkans Travel team, along with our guide Sabahattin, impressed me with their professionalism, dedication to service, and extensive knowledge during our tour of Eastern Turkey. The itinerary was well executed, and Saba’s insights truly enhanced the experience at each site. I also valued the quality of the accommodations, the delicious local food, the safety ensured by our driver, and the wonderful blend of history, art, and culture. If you’re looking to explore this remarkable region, I highly recommend this team.
I recently experienced an incredible five-day private tour for two through Southeast and Central Turkey, guided by Hasan and driven by Ermehr. Hasan was exceptional, leading us to breathtaking sites and deepening our understanding of ancient history. His vast knowledge allowed me to ask numerous questions. The trip was very well organized, and the accommodations were a standout, featuring charming, cozy hotels. Although we spent a considerable amount of time driving, I always felt completely secure with our friendly driver. Hasan was attentive to our needs and made adjustments for photo opportunities, going above and beyond to ensure we were well taken care of. It's clear how highly I regard Hasan, and I strongly endorse his tours.
The private itinerary was exceptionally organized and enjoyable. The accommodations were comfortable, and the driver was friendly, knowledgeable, and supportive. Everything proceeded without a hitch, with drives that were neither too long nor uncomfortable, as the roads were mostly fast and safe.
I just came back from an incredible journey that started in Trabzon. It was a private tour since my companion and I were the only participants. Our guide, Adem Kocaman, truly brought the experience to life with his extensive knowledge, enthusiasm, and humor. The driver, Serhat, was highly skilled at navigating tricky roads, but overall, the road network in Turkey is quite good with reasonable driving times and ample comfort breaks. We appreciated some unlisted extras like visits to a salt mine and an archaeology site. The hotels were charming, clean, and cozy, offering a lot of character compared to typical international chains, though don’t expect tissues in the rooms. If I had to mention a downside, it would be the repetitive kebab meals, but trying different foods is part of the travel experience. I'm unsure what options vegans would have had, though. The entire trip was wonderfully organized, fulfilling my long-held dream to see Ani, Mt. Nemrut, and Akdamar. A tip for women: the first part of the tour had only Turkish toilets, although the hotel bathrooms were different. They were generally clean, but it’s wise to check all stalls in case you find a Western toilet, and the disabled restroom can be a good alternative if available.
This journey to eastern Turkey is absolutely worth it. Sabahettin proved to be an exceptional and highly knowledgeable guide. His deep understanding of the area allowed him to customize the experience to our preferences, including the food and activities we desired. Though it was quite warm in the summer, especially near Diyarbakir, he handled it wonderfully. Without a doubt, this ranks among the best tours I've ever experienced.
The itinerary provided an excellent balance of breathtaking landscapes, historical sites, and local culture in Eastern Turkey. Since I was the only participant, it turned into a private tour, which I appreciated. My guide, Sabahattin, was outstanding—informative, friendly, and humorous. I gained a lot of insight into the area's history, culture, and current events. His choice of restaurants allowed me to enjoy the best local dishes. This was my second trip to Turkey, and I hope to return soon to explore more with Sabahattin. Alkans tour was very accommodating, adjusting my hotel arrangements and refunding my unused domestic flight. Thank you, Nick, for organizing this experience.
I had been looking forward to my trip to the Black Sea and Eastern Turkey for a year, and it met nearly all my expectations. Although I've visited Turkey many times, this region was new to me. The highlight was definitely the Sumela Monastery in Trabzon, but my main focus was on exploring Mesopotamia, the birthplace of civilization. Turkey showcases a rich tapestry of history and culture, including prehistoric sites, Urartian structures, Roman mosaics, Syriac monasteries, Seljuk tombs, medieval bridges, and modern bazaars. The country's natural beauty is remarkable too, with hills, orchards (notably pistachios), fields, and mountains, including Mount Ararat and Mount Nemrud with its impressive tomb of Antioch I. The tour itself was exceptionally organized. Our driver Orhan provided a reassuring presence, while Ören, our young and knowledgeable guide, was a fantastic companion. There were minor hotel issues, but they were overshadowed by the overall thoughtful management. I highly recommend this journey, but be prepared for a demanding schedule. Currently, there are daily hotel changes except for one night, which left me feeling quite fatigued by the end.
This trip was truly wonderful. We explored ancient monuments, churches, palaces, castles, and mosques while traversing stunning landscapes. The food was plentiful, and the hotels were quite comfortable. Our guide, Ahmet Gülmez, had an impressive grasp of Turkish history and culture, effectively bringing the Black Sea, Anatolia, and Mesopotamia to life. He both educated and entertained us, always ensuring our satisfaction. I particularly appreciated the high-quality photographs he shared, which surpassed my own. Serhat, our driver, was professional, safe, and a friendly presence. There were numerous highlights, including Sumela, Ani, Akdamar, Mt. Nemrut, Ishak Pasha, and Gobeklitepe. While we covered many kilometers efficiently, the Mercedes vehicle felt cramped for five passengers and their luggage. For someone tall, entering and exiting the car was a bit awkward. Toyota may offer more comfortable options.
