Notable miracles reported in the area include the appearance of Mary and the Christ child to a sleeping shepherd boy, the healing of a paralyzed man, and the salvation of Portuguese sailors during a fierce storm. The Basilica was ultimately constructed by Portuguese sailors. Designed in the Gothic architectural style, it features three chapels. The original shrine began as a thatched chapel and became a parish church in 1771 while Catholics in India faced persecution from the Dutch. In 1962, Pope John XIII conferred the special designation of Minor Basilica to it. After the completion of the tour, transportation will return you to your hotel or a designated location.
