• Pickup will be at 7:30 A.M. from your hotel in central Thanjavur for a full day trip to Kumbakonam. The journey takes approximately one hour. Upon arrival, you will meet a local English-speaking guide. Kumbakonam gained significance between the 7th and 9th centuries AD as the capital of the Medieval Cholas. Its prosperity peaked during British Rule, establishing it as a notable center for European education and Hindu culture, earning it the moniker, "Cambridge of South India." Starting at the Mahamaham Tank, you will then visit the Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple located outside the city. This temple was built to surpass the Thanjavur's Brahadisvara temple from the 11th century and is famous for housing the largest Shivalingam in South India. Lunch will be taken at a local restaurant. (Lunch is at your own expense). • After lunch, visit Rajan Industries to observe the casting of bronze statues. Following this, you will go to the Iravatheeswarar Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Darasuram. The last stop will be at a silk weaving center, where you can see a silk weaving demonstration and view silk products that are available for purchase. At the end of the tour, your driver will return you to your hotel in the Thanjavur city center.
