What's the itinerary?+
• In the morning, pickup will be provided from your accommodation in Trichy, followed by a drive to Sarangapani Sannidhi Street in Kumbakonam, which takes about 2 hours. This street is home to the residence of Srinivasa Ramanujan, a renowned 19th-century mathematician. A devoted Hindu, Ramanujan attributed his remarkable mathematical abilities to divine inspiration, stating that his mathematical insights were revealed by his family goddess. He is quoted as saying, “An equation for me has no meaning unless it expresses a thought of God.” The family residence has been transformed into a museum, featuring letters, certificates, and explanations of mathematical achievements displayed in the main area. • Following the house tour, a visit will be made to the nearby Sarangapani Temple. Constructed by the Nayak Kings in the 15th century, this impressive twelve-story temple stands 147 feet tall and was the tallest temple in South Asia until the Sri Rangam Temple was established in Trichy. It is dedicated to the Hindu deity Vishnu. Additionally, the sacred Mahamaham water pond will be visited, where it is believed that a dip in its waters purifies all sins. • The next stop will be on the outskirts of Kumbakonam to visit the 7th-century Uppiliappan Temple, also dedicated to God Vishnu. Both temples exemplify the Chola architectural style, featuring a multi-tiered gateway tower. Following this, there will be a break for lunch at a local restaurant (cost not included). • After lunch, a brief 15-minute drive will take you to the nearby town of Darasuram, home to the Airavatesvara Temple, one of the Great Living Chola Temples and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Built in the 12th century by Chola King Rajaraja Chola II, the temple's chariot-shaped platform, adorned with carved pillars and a statue of the Nandi bull, remains well-preserved. This temple is dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva. At the conclusion of the tour, transportation will be provided back to Trichy, where you will be dropped off at your accommodation.
