• You will be picked up from your accommodation early in the morning for the two and a half hour journey to the Temple of the Sun, located near Kumbakonam. This temple is notable for being one of the few historic structures dedicated to the Sun God and is the only temple in Tamil Nadu that features shrines for all nine celestial bodies of the Hindu zodiac. It was constructed in the 11th century A.D. by Chola King Kulothunga I. Hindu beliefs hold that the Sun God grants health, success, and prosperity. • Following this visit, travel to the Temple of the Moon, situated in Thingalur, approximately an hour's drive from the Temple of the Sun. The Moon God is regarded as a reliever of stress and sorrow. This temple features a large statue of the Nandi bull at its entrance and a 16-sided Lingam, which is a phallic symbol associated with the Hindu God Shiva. • The next stop is the Temple of Venus, located in Kanjanur, 21 miles away from the Temple of the Moon. Venus is believed to help with issues related to love, marriage, beauty, and comfort. • The final destination for the day is the Temple of Rahu, found in Thirunageswaram, a half-hour drive from the previous temple. Rahu is linked to the negative effects on a person’s horoscope and is worshipped here to mitigate its ill effects. All four temples were established during the Chola dynasty between the 7th and 11th centuries A.D. and showcase the Dravidian architectural style, characterized by a 5-tiered central tower with intricate facades. At the conclusion of the tour, you will have the option to enjoy lunch (at your own cost) at a local restaurant. After lunch, you will be returned to Trichy and dropped off at your accommodation.
