The weather shifts rapidly, sometimes five times in just three minutes, which is delightful in the Azores, the last western outpost of Europe, located 1500 km from Portugal. We traveled from Munich to Lisbon and then to Ponta Delgada, the capital of Sao Miguel. I highly recommend visiting Terra Nostra Park in Furnas, Sete Cidades, and going whale and dolphin watching. The towns of Ribeiras and Mosteiros are also worth a visit. A flight to Faial leads to the charming city of Horta, and a ferry day trip to Pico showcases the impressive wine-growing region. The flight from Faial to Terceira takes you to the lovely city of Angra do Heroísmo. The unique cuisine of the Azores has a rich, vibrant essence, and exploring the islands by rental car at a leisurely pace is highly enjoyable.
The horses are clearly well cared for and loved. We enjoyed a relaxed ride through rural roads, forests, and gardens, encountering cattle and taking in stunning island views. Monica and Fabio provided excellent care. My son had his first horseback riding experience and later remarked it was his favorite activity of our trip to Terceira.
I arranged this tour on a whim, just a day in advance, and Monica was exceptionally welcoming. I rode a lovely 10-year-old horse named Flash, who was perfect for me. With just two riders, Monica shared many fascinating insights about Flash and Terceira. Sadly, the three hours flew by too quickly. The experience was wonderful, with beautiful weather and stunning views. It's a must-do, so be sure to make a reservation.
