This experience was incredibly enjoyable. I met up with a lifelong friend and her husband in Red River for the weekend, and we spent Sunday deeply engaged in the Red River Scavenger Hunt. While it is designed to last two hours, we loved it so much that we continued without any additional charge. We ended up playing throughout the entire day. Thanks to the scavenger hunt, I did activities I wouldn’t have otherwise considered, such as visiting a candy store to relive some childhood treats—some were as delightful as I remembered, while others were not. We also took a ski lift ride for stunning views, explored a haunted hotel, humorously pretended to do yoga in the park (at our age of 69, it was quite funny), enjoyed a peanut butter and banana milkshake, skipped rocks on the river, and discovered a ghost town. Despite having visited Red River many times before, this scavenger hunt provided a fresh perspective, revealing places and experiences I had no idea existed. The scavenger hunt was fantastic, and our hosts, Kate and Trisha, kept in touch, providing encouragement throughout our adventure. I urge you to try it; I wish there was a version in my hometown of Los Alamos.
I find it hard to believe that this experience cost $29 per person. We naively thought that solving clues would unlock certain items, like ice cream from the store. Instead, the only thing provided was a Canva chart with activity suggestions. This was not a clue-solving mystery, but merely a list of fun ideas. While some were enjoyable (hence my 3-star rating), the activity should have been priced as a single group payment. We thought our virtual guide might be a bot until she requested a tip at the end. I'm certain that the scavenger hunts I've created for free for my students are more engaging. Overall, I was very disappointed given the cost.
