One-hour tour of an old brewery in Takayama with tasting samples, exploring local sake heritage within a 200-metre area housing Japan's notable producers.
This one-hour tour offers an opportunity to explore a historic sake brewery in Takayama, a city renowned for its sake production. You'll see the intricate brewing process first-hand and taste a selection of local sake. The tight-knit area features only seven breweries, a rarity on a global scale.
The tour can accommodate different language requirements upon request and can be arranged as a private experience, though a minimum of two participants is required. Note that under Japanese law, participants must be at least 20 years old to partake in the tasting. Be prepared for weather changes, as the tour runs in various conditions, and remember to check if the brewery you visit may vary based on production schedules.
Reviews
I was the only participant on the tour, so I enjoyed a private experience that was outstanding. Takumi thoroughly explained the sake-making process and answered all my inquiries. He was an excellent guide, making the tour enjoyable and laid-back. I also had the chance to sample 8 different delicious varieties, and I wholeheartedly recommend this tour.
The tour was fascinating, and our guide was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, addressing all our inquiries. The tasting of seven different sake bottles was the standout experience.
This tour was fantastic, with an excellent guide. It was fascinating to visit the oldest sake brewery in Japan, and I also had the chance to sample some wonderful sake.
The sake making process was explained in detail, and the tastings were delightful. The host demonstrated great knowledge and was patient when responding to our questions.
We had a wonderful experience and gained a lot of knowledge. Yama was an excellent guide. The sake tasting and learning about it were definitely worthwhile, and we even bought some bottles to take home.
Sato, our guide, was friendly and knowledgeable. The tour included areas of the brewery that were off-limits, and I gained a lot of insight into the intricate process of producing high-quality Sake. On my next visit, I plan to book directly with Happy Plus Tours for a significantly lower price, as TripAdvisor charges way too much.
This experience was incredibly enjoyable. Our fantastic guide taught us a great deal about sake production, and the tasting revealed an astonishing variety of flavors and levels of depth that we never expected.
Our small group tour of the Funasaka Sake Brewery was fantastic. Satoe, our knowledgeable and friendly guide, gave us valuable historic insights and explained the various rice types involved in the brewing process, culminating in a delightful sake tasting experience. I highly recommend this tour.
The tour leader had a poor command of English, and the itinerary doesn’t include a visit to an operating brewery. The guide explains the sake-making process using plastic A4 sheets, and there’s no visibility of the production. There are two photo opportunities at the entrance, but the tasting itself was decent.
This tour was quite fascinating, providing extensive insights into the sake-making process along with numerous tastings and detailed explanations. Takumi thoroughly covered the entire procedure and discussed the various types of sake and their flavor differences. Just a heads up: you might want to bring an extra bag for your purchases after the tasting.
