Having taken three tours in Japan, we've found them lacking compared to experiences in Europe, Peru, Ecuador, and Croatia. Our guide in Shirakawa-go was pleasant, but the information she provided was mostly self-taught. We wanted more engaging stories rather than an overload of historical facts. Ultimately, we felt discontented. If you're interested in history, it's essential to research your guides to get a more comprehensive experience.

We began with an informative visit to the office hall at Takayama Jinya and continued to explore the main attractions of Takayama, which included a delightful sake tour in the old town of Sanmachi Suji. Our journey then took us to Shirakawa-go aboard a private shuttle bus. While strolling through the village and taking in the beautiful surroundings, we visited the historic Nagase family farmhouse. Our guide, Harry, was exceptionally knowledgeable and showed a genuine passion for local and national history, sharing it with us throughout the day. The driver also provided excellent service, ensuring a smooth ride. With just four participants, the tour was highly interactive and the pacing was perfect, allowing for ample free time. Overall, this one-day tour was a fantastic experience, and we wholeheartedly recommend it, especially with Harry as your guide.
