Reviews
I experienced this tour at the end of December 2022, and El Palmar is a remarkable destination for nature and wildlife lovers. The valley has a dreamlike quality. After passing numerous valleys and mountains in the cool Bolivian Andes, you encounter a unique sight: a valley populated by massive Architectural Janchicoco palms. The tour guides, who are fluent in English, were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Their enthusiasm for Bolivia’s environment resonated with me, making them some of the best people I met during my time in the country. This two-day tour featured two hikes through the valley and a climb up a large rock formation. The scenery was stunning. We stayed overnight in a nearby village inhabited by local native people who benefit from the palms while also helping to protect this ecosystem. Both hikes required a local guide, making this the most genuine and least touristy experience I had in Bolivia. In addition to the palms, I was fortunate enough to see rare Andean Condors, and others might even spot the small population of Andean Spectacled Bears thriving in this valley, thanks to the Janchicoco fruits.
