A day trip with hotel pickup — trek the Inca trail, visit Maragua Crater, enjoy a vegetarian lunch, and see dinosaur footprints.
Start your day with an 8:30 AM pickup from your hotel in Sucre, followed by a one-hour drive to the colonial chapel of Chataquilla. From there, a two-hour trek along the Inca trail begins, leading you to the scenic Maragua Crater.
You’ll enjoy a vegetarian lunch at the crater and have the chance to explore the unique rock formation known as La Garganta del Diablo for 30 minutes. In the afternoon, visit the notable dinosaur footprints for a two-hour tour before heading back to the city. If a local weaver is available, a visit can be arranged to learn about traditional Jalqa weaving.

Had an amazing day in the mountains with David and our guide, who were both fantastic. We hiked along the Inca path and even took a side trip to see dinosaur prints.
The combination of activities on this day tour was fantastic. I loved hiking along a prehispanic path amid stunning mountain views, exploring the colorful, remote community of Maragua crater, and seeing the incredible dinosaur footprints. Henry, our guide, made sure I felt secure on the steep trails and provided informative details about each location. The driver was excellent as well.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Inca Trail Trek and the tour of Maragua Crater. David and Carlos were outstanding hosts and guides—punctual, knowledgeable, and attentive. The tour matched its description perfectly, featuring stunning scenery and captivating locations. I highly recommend this tour.
The tour was quite good, involving a lot of walking, primarily downhill. The footprints were remarkable, and the guide appeared to be very knowledgeable.
We enjoyed a fascinating day with stunning views. The guide maintained a professional demeanor, and the driver was skilled and drove safely. We visited some remote locations, including a weaver, and the lunch was excellent. Although it was a lengthy day (departing at 8:30 AM and returning at 6:15 PM) with extensive driving, the small group size of four made it enjoyable. However, the cost is significantly higher compared to other tours we’ve taken in Bolivia.
Initially, we drove up to the mountain, where the fog limited our expectations. Upon reaching the summit, we exited the car and walked mostly downhill to where the vehicle was parked. My father faced some challenges during the hike, but our guide demonstrated incredible patience and assistance, even carrying medical supplies. After the hike, we enjoyed a tasty lunch made by the team, followed by a visit to the site with dinosaur footprints. Overall, it was an excellent experience.
The tour was enjoyable, and our guide was excellent. At the end, we drove back up the mountain in a car, which offered dramatic views next to a steep drop. If heights make you uneasy, be aware that the driver navigated close to the edge, and we had to stop after witnessing another car that had gone off the road. Fortunately, the passengers emerged unscathed, but it added to the anxiety of that final stretch. Overall, the experience was quite fun.
The Inca trail is predominantly downhill, with a drop of about 500 meters over 4 kilometers. Portions of the trail have suffered erosion, with a 30-meter stretch now consisting of loose dirt and rocks, posing a 200-meter drop hazard without prior warning from the guide or in the tour description. Another eroded section has been safely reconstructed. The provided lunch was a packed picnic, likely prepared by the guide, featuring local Bolivian cuisine that felt inappropriate for a tour costing $100. A significant portion of the trip involved at least five hours in a 4x4 vehicle, mainly navigating rough dirt roads in first gear. Despite these concerns, the scenery and the feeling of seclusion were impressive.
The entire experience was excellently organized from beginning to end. Our guide, Gary, was both knowledgeable and laid-back. We had plenty of time to appreciate the stunning scenery along the Inca Trail, and the brief rain added an interesting contrast to the dinosaur footprints. I strongly recommend this adventure.
This was an excellent full-day experience in the beautiful outdoors near Sucre. The hiking was enjoyable, the views were stunning, and the lunch was top-notch. The dinosaur footprints and the J'alqa weaving were particularly intriguing. Our guide, Manuel, performed well. A suggestion would be to have a dedicated trash bag from the beginning, as we noticed the driver disposing of a plastic bottle in the bushes.
