The integration of the application with Google Maps that activated the commentary was quite fascinating and honestly, quite impressive.
We recently completed our fourth driving tour of the California Gold Country over a long weekend, and it was a fantastic experience. As avid history enthusiasts, we learned much more about the gold rush era than we expected. This particular tour was exceptional, primarily because we met characters who truly brought that period to life, with a notable focus on the remarkable women of the time and their contributions. It began in the charming town of Angels Camp, famous for Mark Twain's Jumping Frog, and included stunning natural attractions like the Calaveras Big Trees, Moaning Caverns, and Natural Bridges Trailhead. Columbia State Historic Park felt like a genuine trip back to the gold rush, featuring a well-preserved town where we could pan for gold and ride in a stagecoach. Additionally, the Railtown 1897 State Park near Jamestown was a delightful stop for railroad enthusiasts. Fans of classic television and westerns will appreciate walking through a town that has served as the backdrop for countless shows. This series of tours was a fantastic way to end our adventurous two days and is highly recommended for history buffs or anyone interested in uncovering the hidden treasures of the California Gold Country.
The app requires improvement. The tour was intended to go from Angels Camp to Jamestown, but starting in Jamestown made it challenging as the app struggled with the reverse direction. I found it hard to switch between text and audio directions.
The tour along the “golden 49” was enjoyable. However, following directions proved challenging due to timing issues, traffic, glare from the sun, and hard-to-read street signs, particularly in the small towns. The stories shared were fantastic and helped make the longer stretches more engaging.
The tour doesn't proceed if you don't begin at the precise starting point. I also faced significant difficulties accessing the tour and found it essential to plan ahead and have all necessary content pre-loaded. However, the narration was informative and enjoyable at the few stops we listened to.
I appreciated the personal accounts of women journeying to California by boat, steamer, and coach, full of wonder and bravery.
It was decent but could use improvement. There was some historical context combined with site visits. I often strayed off the planned route to explore more intriguing locations that weren't included in the audio. During the lengthy drives, I found the repeated stories and history quite annoying at times, which made me wonder why we didn't stop at some other nearby towns.
This was a captivating experience for our initial driving tour. We appreciated the engaging stories and the detailed turn-by-turn navigation. I would strongly recommend it.
The tour was disappointing as the adviser stopped shortly after starting. I felt it was a waste of both time and money. I wouldn't want to go through this experience again.
