A round-trip ferry ride, approximately 45-60 minutes each way, to Egmont Key for beach activities, with three hours on the island for swimming and exploring.
Catch the ferry from Fort DeSoto Bay Pier for a scenic trip to Egmont Key State Park, taking about 45 to 60 minutes each way. Operated daily in spring and summer, and nearly daily in fall and winter, the route often offers sightings of dolphins, sea turtles, and a variety of sea birds.
Once on Egmont Key, enjoy three hours of access to a pristine beach where you can swim, shell, or explore historical sites like Fort Dade, dating back to the Spanish-American War. Be aware that snorkeling is available for purchase on the trip day but is dependent on water conditions. Consider appropriate beach attire and sunscreen for a fulfilling day outdoors.

We have taken our kids to Egmont Key for the second time, and we really enjoy this trip. It offers a fantastic chance to spend time on the water for a few hours and then enjoy the beach, search for shells, and explore the ruins on the island. On our way back, we even spotted some dolphins. It was a wonderful day overall.
We had a wonderful experience overall. The captain and his assistant were friendly and provided a wealth of information. The staff at the booth were outstanding. During the ferry ride, we saw dolphins and possibly a couple of sea turtles. Egmont Key was stunning, and I would certainly go back.
This was an incredible experience, and I will likely choose to do this every time I visit St. Pete.
Kip and Collin were incredibly accommodating and ensured that everyone had a great time. We enjoyed a lovely day and were lucky enough to see a manatee, dolphins, and tortoises on the island. I highly recommend this experience.
I had an amazing experience! The ride was fantastic, and the crew were friendly and knowledgeable. The boat departed on schedule, making everything perfect. I look forward to doing this again.
It was a pleasant experience, whether you prefer lounging at the beach or discovering the island. However, very little of the ghost town still exists, so don't anticipate walking among any structures. There are some signs indicating what used to be there.
We had a fantastic experience with a friendly and skilled crew. Seeing dolphins was a memorable part of both segments of the trip. Our kids had a great time and are eager to go again.
The day was truly enjoyable. The ride to and from Egmont Key was great, and I loved exploring the island before relaxing on the beach. The captain and crew were friendly, knowledgeable, and provided plenty of information.
I went on the Egmont Key trip with a friend visiting from out of town, and despite living in St. Pete for years, it was my first time there. The Sunday weather was beautiful, perfect for sunbathing, shelling, hiking, and exploring. The excursion lasted five hours, with three hours spent on the island. The ferry ride was enjoyable, thanks to Captain Zip and Captain Colin, who were both entertaining and knowledgeable. We even spotted dolphins and discovered some local sites near Ft Desoto. I plan to go again soon with local friends. It's an excellent deal, ideal for families, friends, or couples, offering lots of space and privacy on the island. Don't forget to pack a cooler for lunch and plenty of sunscreen.
I had a fantastic time on my trip to Egmont Key. Captain Zip and Collin were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, taking the time to show our group dolphins and a manatee during the journey. We loved exploring Fort Dade and relaxing on the secluded island. I highly recommend this experience.
