Four hours, small group — visit Cape Spear Lighthouse, Signal Hill, and enjoy a boat tour for whale watching and icebergs.
This small-group tour starts with hotel pick-up in downtown St. John's, where you'll head to Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site, the oldest lighthouse in Newfoundland and the easternmost point in North America. Enjoy a scenic drive through the city, pass by Jellybean Row's colourful homes, George Street, and the quaint Quidi Vidi Village.
Next, visit Signal Hill National Historic Site, home to Cabot Tower, where you can take in sweeping views of the city and harbour. The experience wraps up with Iceberg Quest, an award-winning boat tour that offers views of the coastline and the chance to see humpback whales and ancient icebergs. The tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel in downtown St. John's.
Reviews
I thoroughly enjoyed the St. John’s Small Group Tour combined with the Iceberg Quest Boat Cruise. The organization of the tour was excellent, and our guide truly stood out. They created a relaxed and fun atmosphere while sharing fascinating facts and stories about the region, making it feel like we were with a knowledgeable local. The Iceberg Quest Boat Cruise was amazing—seeing those massive icebergs up close from the water was an experience I won't forget. I highly recommend this tour if you're in St. John’s; having the same guide would be an added bonus.
The experience was cancelled the day prior, so there was nothing to participate in. It's important to verify these details before asking for reviews.
The city tour was disappointing as I had to sit in the back of a small vehicle. However, the ocean cruise was fantastic; we were fortunate with the weather and saw whales.
Keith was an excellent local guide, sharing engaging stories and great recommendations. The sightings of whales and the exploration of hidden caves were definitely standout moments on the boat.
Our experience with Leo, our tour guide, was outstanding. He provided us with a wealth of history about the St. John's area. The boat we were on was excellent, and we even spotted some Humpback Whales while the captain shared additional insights about the coast.
Unfortunately, the tour company assigned a replacement guide for our group of six. Although he had a decent vocabulary, his strong Ukrainian accent made it challenging to understand him. The land portion of our tour was a quick visit to nearby highlights, with each stop lasting no more than five minutes, and some stops had even less time. Afterwards, we were taken to the boat. On the plus side, we spotted whales right after leaving the harbor. The boat trip was informative, and the crew was friendly, with a well-maintained vessel.
The trip didn't match our expectations. The city tour was informative and the guide was excellent, but we assumed that most of the time would be spent on the boat tour. While the boat tour was decent, we didn’t see any whales, puffins, or icebergs. Overall, we felt it was too expensive for what we experienced.
This tour was a complete disappointment and not worth the time or money. It lacked informative content, and the boat ride felt pointless—we saw no whales, icebergs, or puffins.
The driver for our tour never arrived. When we contacted the company, they claimed they had no record of our reservation made nearly a year earlier. They offered no apology and didn't attempt to send someone immediately. Instead, they suggested a time that was completely unworkable for us. It seems that Viator did not successfully relay the reservation. It's better to book directly with the tour provider.
We had a fantastic half-day driving tour with Keith, who is a local. His understanding of the area's history and culture was outstanding. We valued his friendly demeanor and impressive storytelling. We strongly recommend Keith.
