The Kenai River in Alaska is the ultimate destination for salmon fishing. We booked our trip with Kenai Drift Anglers eight months in advance, eagerly awaiting our experience in mid-August. Under the guidance of Scotty, our knowledgeable guide, we learned the unconventional flossing technique aimed at catching Sockeye salmon. Scotty explained that these fish swim upriver with their mouths open to spawn. His instructions were clear: cast your line across the current and sweep the rod tip slowly to the three o’clock position, then speed up to set the hook. It seemed improbable to catch fish without bait, yet we ended up with over 50 lbs. of ‘Red’ Salmon. Scotty’s friendly demeanor, patience, and expertise made our fishing adventure exceptional. He was constantly active, helping us navigate the rocky river, offering continual guidance, and assisting with fishing techniques while cheerfully celebrating every catch—even the ones that got away. He filleted our fish expertly, suggested a processing company for our catch, and even took memorable photos for us to share. This trip was remarkable, and I highly recommend booking with Scotty.
An absolutely stellar experience! Our guide, Scotty, was exceptional. He took us to the Kenai River for sockeye fishing, and we had a fantastic day, catching our double limit of 24 salmon. Scotty shared valuable flossing techniques and found us a prime spot, which is tough to do in July. He was simply amazing, and we plan to return.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience with Scott and Chris. Scott was quick to answer all our inquiries prior to the trip, while Chris displayed remarkable patience throughout.
We had an excellent day fishing with Scotty on the Kasilof River. He was an outstanding guide who taught us the techniques of fly fishing. My husband and I truly enjoyed ourselves, thanks to Scotty’s patience and expertise.
Scott's communication before our trip and his skill on the water contributed to an amazing day of sockeye fishing. My wife is now completely captivated!
Our group of three friends from Oregon had an incredible three-day fishing adventure with Scott Daletas, the owner and guide of Kenai Drift Anglers. Scott was knowledgeable, friendly, and skillful throughout the entire experience. We all caught our limits of salmon and halibut, and now we're back home with freezers full of delicious fish fillets. Our Alaskan trip exceeded our expectations. Thank you, Kenai Drift Anglers!
The drift boat journey on the Kasilof River on June 29, 2025, with Scot was outstanding. He had extensive knowledge of the river and guided us to salmon, allowing us to limit out in just 45 minutes. His top-quality drift boat and well-maintained fly rods and reels enhanced the experience. Scot was an excellent guide, handling the netting and cleaning of all our fish. He also suggested a fly-in trip for our group of four, which was remarkable; we limited out on salmon, spotted bears, and even flew over a glacier. We're very grateful for his arrangement of both adventures, which were truly unforgettable experiences.
I previously had a great fishing experience with Scotty, but this time was awful. The day before my trip, Scotty informed me he was taking the day off and his partner would take us on the Kasilof River instead of the Kenai, where we had seen others catching salmon. We were looking forward to that. When we met his partner, there was no coffee or heat on the freezing boat at 6 am. We spent hours casting, only catching one small salmon. At the end, he dropped us off at a muddy trail, forcing us to struggle with waders in the mud. Scotty’s partner mentioned he would take us out the next day. However, when Scotty called later, he asked for another $800, despite my already having paid over $1200. I refused to pay $2000 for a fishing trip. We were extremely disappointed and will not book with them again.
This was an unforgettable fishing experience, and Scotty from Kenai Drift Anglers truly surpassed our expectations. My two teenage sons and I fished for Sockeye Salmon at the end of July and limited out in just an hour. Scotty took us to a prime spot and provided excellent instruction, leading to our success. Waders and coffee were available, and the heated seats were a nice touch on chilly mornings. With this year's remarkable run, all the processors were busy, but Scotty's connections allowed us to have our catch processed, frozen, and shipped home if needed. We ended up with 84 lbs of fish ready in our freezer. Thank you, Scotty, for a fantastic and memorable day. I even returned for an early trip the next day to catch a few more fish and was done and back at the hotel before my family woke up.
I took my 21-year-old grandson fishing with Scotty on the Kenai River, followed by a fly-out to the Kustatan River. Our first day was fantastic, and we hit our limits in just a few hours. The second day was even better, with an excellent flight that included a stop to deliver supplies to a remote site. Our guide Josh was exceptional, and we caught our limits using spinners, which was much more exciting than simply waiting for a bite with bait. Unfortunately, the third day was a washout due to heavy rain, so we asked Scotty to take us back to the dock early to get dry and warm. I highly recommend Kenai Drift Anglers and plan to use them again for future trips with my other grandkids to Alaska.
