• The name Kufri is derived from ‘Kufr’, meaning lake. The area surrounding Shimla, including Kufri, was once part of the Kingdom of Nepal. This region remained relatively unknown until it was brought to attention by the British in 1819, who established Shimla as their summer capital in 1864, maintaining this status until 1939. As Shimla's significance grew, Kufri started to be recognized as an important nearby destination. • Himalayan Nature Park spans 90 hectares of temperate vegetation that serves as a natural habitat for numerous wildlife species found in the Western Himalaya. It is considered one of the most impressive attractions in Kufri, hidden among the towering Himalayas, offering stunning views. Visitors may encounter various animals, including Kashmir Stag, Barking Deer, Blue Sheep, and Red Jungle Fowl. • Jakhu Temple is an ancient religious site dedicated to the Hindu deity Hanuman, positioned on Jakhu Hill, and is a key attraction in Shimla. According to legend, when Lakshmana, Lord Rama's brother, was wounded by a demon king Ravana, Hanuman traveled to the Himalayas to fetch the Sanjeevani herb to save him. Unable to recognize the herb, Hanuman uprooted the entire mountain and returned to Lakshmana. • Vice Regal Lodge, also called Rashtrapati Niwas, is situated on Observatory Hill in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. This residence, previously occupied by the British Viceroy of India, Lord Dufferin, is among the top places to visit in Shimla. Designed by British architect Henry Irwin, it was constructed in the Jacobethan architectural style during Lord Dufferin's tenure. • Mall Road serves as the prominent shopping area in Shimla. It links several key sites in Shimla, such as Lakkar Bazaar, Mall, Scandal Point, and Jakhu Hill, through the Ridge. The area prohibits vehicle traffic, ensuring it remains bustling with pedestrians.
