Two to three hours — fly to Godwin Glacier for a dog sled ride, interact with Alaskan huskies, and learn about dog mushing directly from local mushers.
This tour combines a helicopter flight to Godwin Glacier with an immersive dog sledding experience. Expect to spend two to three hours in total, including the flight and time at the dog camp. Here, visitors can interact with the Alaskan huskies and learn about their training and the history of dog mushing. Participants will ride on a two-mile sledding course, then have the chance to play in the snow and cuddle with puppies.
The tour is operated by Seward Helicopters, a local family-owned business with extensive knowledge of the area. Dress warmly, as the conditions on the glacier can be chilly, and be prepared for an engaging experience with these amazing dogs.

This experience perfectly matches the description. The helicopter ride is impressive, with three seats available for passengers alongside the pilot. Upon landing on the stunning glacier, dog sledding is arranged, allowing for a quick excursion around the ice. The dogs seem thrilled to embark on the journey, and afterward, you can interact with charming, albeit mischievous, puppies. Finally, you return to the starting point via helicopter.
What an incredible experience! From the initial housekeeping briefing about safety to the thrilling helicopter ride and the dog sledding, everything was fantastic. The staff exhibited professionalism and friendliness. The helicopter ascent was impressive, with our pilot sharing insights about the scenery. The dogsled guide was exceptional, providing information about the dogs, their kennel, and their life on the glacier. It was delightful to enjoy the sled ride while interacting with the dogs and observing their unique personalities, which the guide clearly understood well. A truly memorable adventure.
The tour was organized through a local company with Seward Helicopter Tours. Upon arrival, we received snow boots to ensure we wouldn’t bring any debris onto the glacier. There were two portable restrooms available just outside. My husband and I boarded a helicopter designed for four, including the pilot. A ground assistant helped us get settled, though communication was mostly nonverbal due to the noise of the helicopter. Our pilot was focused on flying, which was understandable since the air was a bit turbulent. Despite the overcast conditions, the views of Godwin Glacier during our brief ten-minute ride were stunning. Once we landed on the snow, a staff member from Turning Heads Kennel assisted us out of the helicopter and directed us to a fenced area to meet the puppies. Another staff member helped us onto the dogsled and shared insights about the training and the 16 dogs on his team. We each got to stand with the driver and call commands to the dogs. After the ride, the driver took some fantastic photos of us with the dog team. We spent roughly an hour on the glacier. When it was time to return, we boarded the helicopter again, maintaining our assigned seating for balance reasons. The ride back was smoother, offering great views of Resurrection Bay and Seward as we landed. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, highlighting my first helicopter ride. The only downside was the gloomy weather, which turned rainy while we were at the dog camp. I was dressed in a ball cap, T-shirt under my rain jacket, gloves, and thin pants under rain pants, but I still felt cold. I realized I should have added a warmer hat and a light jacket for better insulation.
This was the highlight of our trip to Alaska. The breathtaking views, helicopter ride, dog sledding, and glacier exploration created unforgettable memories. I highly recommend this experience. The crew, staff, pilots, mushers, and dogs were all fantastic, making us feel safe while we enjoyed every moment.
The helicopter ride offers stunning scenery, and the view from the top of the glacier is truly surreal. The dogs are incredibly impressive, and the puppies are simply adorable.
This experience is essential for anyone visiting Seward; it’s truly rewarding. From start to finish, the entire team delivered outstanding service. I want to especially recognize “Matt the Musher” for sharing his exceptional work with us. His passion and expertise about his dogs and sledding were evident and made it possible for us to engage with and understand a fascinating world we were previously unaware of. It was definitely a highlight of our Alaskan land and sea adventure.
The helicopter ride was wonderful. The operator skillfully managed the takeoff and landing. The husky dogs and puppies were adorable, and I thoroughly enjoyed holding the puppies. Their energy was thrilling. The crew caring for the huskies was fantastic, and our musher was a college student studying veterinary medicine. It was an amazing experience for him. I highly recommend this activity and would love to do it again.
Everything was well-organized and quite engaging. It would be nice if the reception staff were a bit more welcoming and could offer coffee.
This experience was outstanding. Our helicopter pilot, John, flew us over the glacier while pointing out various sights from above. Despite the drizzly and cold weather, it was ideal for meeting Matt, the Musher, who introduced us to the wonderful dogs before we enjoyed an authentic dog sled ride. We also had the chance to meet seven puppies being trained for the Iditarod. It was an unforgettable experience from start to finish.
This excursion comes highly recommended. The cost is justified by the excitement it offers, and the staff goes above and beyond to ensure a great experience. If your budget allows, it's definitely a must-do.
