Reviews
We had a wonderful experience as a family, full of laughter. It would be even more enjoyable if we could take a 2-mile walk through the Christmas lights or have that as an option. Additionally, it would be great if there could be arrangements with the whiskey and wine tasting venues to allocate space for the bus tour guests, or at least provide that as a choice during the booking process.
Our experience did not meet our expectations. The meeting instructions were unclear, sending us to a complex at 220 Apple Valley with vague directions, leading to confusion until a bus driver helped us find the right spot. The tour guide needed improvement; he talked excessively without informing us about our destination, primarily mentioning restaurants, despite this not being a dining tour. He also introduced religious topics into the discussion. When we finally arrived, the lights were indeed beautiful, but we were disappointed by the uncomfortable van with just seven seats. We will not be booking again.
Exercise caution when booking and paying. I fully paid a week in advance for the tour. Arriving 15 minutes before departure, I saw the bus leave the parking lot. I called the contact number provided and left a message to inform them that the bus departed without my wife and me. I also reached out to the provider asking for the bus to come back. We waited for an hour, hoping the bus would return or another tour would be available, but neither occurred. I received an email stating that once the bus leaves, it does not come back, and the driver should not have left without ensuring all guests were present. Clearly, the driver was unaware of the policy, and I still have not received a refund for my payment. I came to Tennessee for Thanksgiving, and the Smoky Mountain Holiday Light Spectacular was meant to be the highlight, but it turned into the most disappointing part of my trip.
The tour guide was pleasant and shared helpful information about local attractions, but there was little discussion of Christmas traditions. We only visited Patriot Park and Soaky Mountain, missing out on Gatlinburg. Overall, I felt let down, expecting more for the high price we paid.
The experience was delightful. The pace allowed us to fully appreciate both the music and the lights. Some individuals weren't present initially, but he kindly made a courtesy call and went to fetch them from the far end of the parking lot.
The tour could have been better if it were priced lower. While our driver was both friendly and knowledgeable, which improved the experience, the main highlights mentioned in the description, such as driving through the lights in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, never occurred. We were instructed to arrive by 6:15 pm, with a promise the bus would depart by 7 pm, but after waiting for late arrivals, we didn’t leave until nearly 7:30. The trip included a visit to the Soaky Mountain Light Show, where we discovered the entry fee for a single car was $34.95. After viewing the light display, we walked through the water park featuring a souvenir shop, a hot cocoa stand, and a fast food outlet. We then returned to our original pick-up location. Considering what the tour offered, it felt overpriced.
There were schedule changes that I didn't expect. I had hoped for more historical insights, but our driver Jack was friendly and pleasant. The light show was impressive, though the experience felt more like a transit bus. I could have driven myself and saved $200. The van was 30 minutes late and picked up additional passengers at another location. We were at the Apple Mill from 5 until 7 p.m. and didn't depart until almost 8 p.m. Despite these setbacks, we did enjoy ourselves.
The driver was enjoyable and engaging, but that was the only aspect that aligned with the event's description. Our start time was pushed back by an hour due to another tour, and we waited an additional thirty minutes for a group that never arrived. While we did see the Festival of Lights at Soaky Park, the tour failed to include lights in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg as promised. The duration was advertised as approximately 2.5 hours, but we were back at the drop-off within just 1.5 hours. They charged a price that was double the cost of a car entrance to the park. It's better to drive yourself and save some money.
This experience didn't seem worth the expense. We caught a glimpse of some lights in Pigeon Forge, but the driver didn't take us to Gatlinburg. The highlight was the drive through Soaky Mountain, where the lights synchronized to music beautifully. However, visiting on your own would only cost $39.95 per car for admission, making it a much more economical option.
The Christmas lights display was stunning. The drive took approximately one hour, but I felt it was significantly overpriced.
