We arranged a private excursion in Indonesia with friends, expecting a custom experience over 5–7 hours that would allow us to visit unique spots away from the typical tourist path. Our guide was very friendly, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, despite our repeated requests to explore places different from the standard Viking cruise itinerary, we ended up visiting the same locations as the included tours. This made our private experience feel repetitive and not tailored to what we wanted. It was disappointing, especially since we had specifically asked for a more unique adventure. At the end of the tour, we finally went to a beach, but it felt like an afterthought rather than a planned part of the itinerary. We also noticed a lack of adequate safety measures when crossing busy streets filled with scooters. The guide only helped us navigate these tricky situations once, which seemed insufficient given the chaotic nature of the traffic. On a brighter note, the lunch stop was exceptional with absolutely delicious food, marking a highlight of our day. In summary, while the guide was kind, we wouldn't recommend this tour if you're seeking a truly personalized experience, especially if you're part of a Viking cruise. You might as well experience the same sites that the included tour covers. In contrast, another private tour we took the day before was entirely different; it was much more customized, featuring hidden gems and a genuine behind-the-scenes vibe that we were hoping to find in this tour.
