This excursion begins with a three-hour drive from Semarang port to Borobudur Temple, where you'll spend about three hours exploring this renowned Buddhist monument. Following Borobudur, the tour includes a visit to the Mendut Temple, considered older and more significant than Borobudur itself.
Transportation, an English-speaking guide, and all entrance tickets are included. Guests can sample local fruits and traditional snacks, known locally as 'jajanan pasar', during the visit. After the temple explorations, the return journey to Semarang port also takes around three hours.

Semarang City retains traces of Dutch architecture and culture as it transitions from its colonial history to a growing tourist destination. The narrow streets lined with charming shops, homes, and eateries create a welcoming atmosphere. The locals are incredibly friendly. During our visit to a temple, we encountered a group of schoolchildren on a field trip who eagerly filmed us and greeted us in English. Their teacher explained how excited the students were to meet Westerners, particularly Americans, and they were eager to practice their language skills. We engaged in enjoyable conversations that delighted them, although it felt a bit odd to be the focus of their filming. This region truly deserves our respect and support, as the cruise industry could significantly benefit the local community.
The driver never arrived. We waited for 1.5 hours in the heat and tried to call and email, but received no reply. It was very disappointing, as we missed our visit to Borobodur. Terrible service.
The driver did not arrive, and there was no communication from the provider regarding the situation. I still don’t have clarity on why this occurred, but I did receive a full refund.
Our guide reached out the night prior to confirm our trip, and he was there waiting for us as soon as we got off the boat. His enthusiasm, humor, and expertise made our journey to Borobudur, including the drive to and from the cruise port and a stop at a Batik shop, an unforgettable experience.
We were on a Viking cruise and decided to visit Borobudur independently. Maxi picked us up with a warm smile, ready to greet us. He skillfully maneuvered through traffic to ensure we returned on time. Throughout the ride, he happily shared insights about Indonesian culture. We arrived at Borobudur well before the Viking tours, giving us ample time to explore the stunning temple. He provided cold water and crackers, along with a refreshing towel. We got back to our cruise ahead of schedule, and Maxi’s cheerful demeanor and excellent service impressed us greatly. I highly recommend him.
