Four-hour evening train journey through Verde Valley — first-class seating, stunning views of Arizona’s geology, wildlife, and archaeological sites under the stars.
This four-hour train ride with the Verde Canyon Railroad takes you through the picturesque Verde Valley, showcasing Arizona’s geological features and remnants of ancient Sinagua civilization. The starlight excursions, available on select Fridays and Saturdays from May through September, depart in the late afternoon, allowing you to enjoy the vibrant sunset before transitioning into the tranquil moonlit landscape.
Travel in first-class seating for unobstructed views of the diverse wildlife and dramatic scenery, flanked by two national forests and close to the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness. As the train winds through this pristine terrain, remember to bring a light jacket for the cooler evening temperatures.

Michael and Tristan were great guides—engaging, knowledgeable, and very attentive as we explored the canyon. They highlighted both historical and prehistoric landmarks, unique rock formations, and even some wildlife along the way.
Booking the vintage train for the second time confirmed my belief that it's the best value among tours in the Sedona area. The four-hour ride offers air-conditioned seating and open-air viewing cars. A small snack tray is provided, and a full bar is available for beverage purchases. Attendants inside and outside the cars share historical insights about the train and Verde Valley as you enjoy stunning canyon views along the way. If you can, make sure to add this to your itinerary.
This experience is incredibly unique and fascinating! It was definitely worth the cost. The staff were wonderful, the train was quite comfortable, and the views were unparalleled. We are already discussing a return visit in the future.
The guides had a deep understanding of the area's history, although I wished they spoke a bit more slowly. Unfortunately, we visited on a full moon night and faced some cloud cover, so we missed the Milky Way, despite their usual success with stargazing. The food and snacks were good, and I particularly enjoyed the introductory champagne toast along with the prickly pear margaritas. Most of the views were outside, as the indoor visibility was limited.
One of the standout experiences of our visit to Arizona! Riding the train through the canyon was fantastic, especially while enjoying wine and listening to the guides share insights about the area. The service was excellent—quick and friendly. We particularly loved the open-air car, both as the light faded during the ride out and on the return when the stars appeared. This is an adventure you shouldn't pass up!
Andy is a fantastic guide, providing plenty of information while being entertaining and humorous. Ryan excels in customer service, always quick to respond and attentive.
My friend and I enjoyed this tour in April 2026, and it became the highlight of our visit to Cottonwood/Sedona. The staff were exceptionally friendly; our guide Andy and bartender Eric were outstanding. Upon boarding, we were served a wonderful charcuterie board and champagne, and the train cars were beautiful and comfortable. Sitting in the open cars was particularly enjoyable. The scenery of the red rocks was stunning, and we loved the ride along the river. I highly recommend this experience to everyone.
The evening was truly enjoyable and calming. The crew was both friendly and knowledgeable. I had read reviews about the food at the Spike being disappointing, but I found the chicken wrap to be plentiful and tasty. This experience is definitely one I would do again. I did wish the gift shop had extended hours since we couldn't visit before we left.
It was a lovely experience on the Verde River train ride. Dillan was an excellent guide. The ride was smooth, and another couple kindly swapped seats so my disabled veteran husband could be more comfortable. It’s a good idea to bring binoculars.
This experience was enjoyable and definitely worth doing at least once. We took the night train with Josh as our guide and bartender, who excelled at both roles. "T" in the outdoor cart provided excellent insights about the areas we traveled through. The return journey was peaceful beneath the stars, with Josh sharing his knowledge about the constellations. Overall, it was a wonderful escape from everyday life.
