Two hours observing and creating pottery at a studio in a fruit orchard, with options to finish pieces later.
This two-hour workshop and tour takes place in a pottery studio located just a mile from Ojai's city center, set amongst serene fruit orchards. Participants can watch skilled potters in action and try their hand at various pottery techniques during the session.
After creating their pieces, visitors have the option to pay a small fee for trimming, glazing, and high-firing their work, which takes about three weeks to complete. There's also an opportunity to return and glaze your pieces at no extra charge. For convenience, the studio offers shipping services for finished pottery throughout the United States.

This experience was both educational and wonderful for us as two novice seniors. We had the chance to create five pottery pieces and explore their gallery, which showcases beautiful artwork. Robin, Arron, and Liz are talented artists who truly love what they do.
We had a great time as a family in the pottery class. The instructors were very positive and supportive, showing a lot of patience with us beginners on the wheel. We created a few pieces that we will cherish. I highly recommend this pottery class.
I thoroughly enjoyed crafting bowls, plates, and vases from clay while sharing wonderful moments with a close friend. The staff were truly friendly and supportive, which enhanced the experience. I can't wait to return for more pottery making.
We thoroughly enjoyed this hands-on pottery experience that lasted two hours, which flew by as we shaped the clay. It's a perfect activity for everyone, regardless of skill level. In our group of 11, including two 7-year-olds, we had three potters from Firestick Pottery guiding us. After an informative tour and process overview, we saw a wheel potting demonstration. We were then free to create up to five pottery pieces with as much assistance as we desired. For those living locally, you can revisit Firestick to learn glazing for a small fee. As we were not local, we chose to have Firestick glaze our pieces for $15 each. They also offered to pack and ship our finished pottery at a reasonable cost. My friend and I agreed we would definitely participate in this experience again.
The pottery class for beginners was really enjoyable. You get to take home what you create, and glazing is available for an additional cost. You can either collect your pieces in a week or opt for them to be mailed to you.
I really enjoyed this experience, guided by a team of kind and patient experts. They made learning easy and enjoyable.
I chose to spontaneously attend a two-hour pottery class, and it was a fantastic decision. We learned about the studio's history and admired stunning artwork, and Liz, our instructor, was incredibly patient and kind. She made us feel comfortable despite our lack of experience with the wheel. Approach it with a mindset of having fun and experimenting with clay, and listen to Liz; her guidance will inspire you to keep creating. I attended solo and was seated next to some great people, Okley and Alexis, which added to the fun. Thank you, Liz, for being such a great teacher.
The studio had a warm and inviting atmosphere. The instructors were patient and supportive, offering assistance only when asked without taking control of your work. Be mindful that parking can be a bit challenging.
The 2-hour workshop was enjoyable overall, with wonderful staff, owner, facilities, and glazes. However, we were disappointed that almost the entire first hour was spent on a facility tour, which left us with just one hour—or only 10 minutes each—to create the five pieces we were promised. This led to a rushed experience since throwing on the wheel is challenging; my boyfriend and I managed to complete only 3 out of 5 pieces, and others in our class expressed similar concerns. I recommend offering an optional tour either before or after the workshop instead of during the paid time. Additionally, we were surprised to be charged an extra $15 per piece for trimming, firing, and glazing, totaling an additional $75 on top of the $130 we paid for the class. We would have preferred a higher upfront cost rather than paying extra later. Despite these issues, we had a nice time and would participate in the workshop again if it became more focused on hands-on pottery.
Erin stands out as an exceptional ceramics instructor, making her the ideal choice for beginners. In our two-hour session, we crafted around three pieces each from roughly one-pound balls of clay after an in-depth demonstration. We are thrilled with our newfound skills and creations. Even one of us, who had previously taken college classes, felt that Erin's teaching far surpassed any prior experience.
