A five-hour guided tour from Sandakan, starting at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre where you can witness the feeding of orphaned orangutans and watch a 25-minute documentary on their rehabilitation efforts. The tour continues to the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre, dedicated to caring for and rehabilitating sun bears while raising awareness about these lesser-known creatures.
After visiting the bears, you'll drive for about 45 minutes to Labuk Bay’s mangrove forest, home to Proboscis monkeys. From the observation area, you'll get an up-close view of these unique monkeys, known for their distinctive features and endemic status to Borneo. Dress comfortably for a nature outing, and prepare for some wildlife photography.

This tour is an excellent way to observe the three main animals found in North Borneo. We were fortunate to witness an orangutan walking to the nursery just before feeding time, with some mothers and their babies already inside. Next, we observed proboscis monkeys during their feeding, including the alpha male with his group of females and young. We saw several sun bears pacing around, although they didn’t display their natural necklaces. We also spotted oriental pied hornbills and Bornean black squirrels. The tour concluded with a visit to Sandakan city. Mica was an effective guide, ensuring we arrived at each location at ideal times. This experience was highly enjoyable, and I would strongly recommend it.
This trip was among the best tours I’ve ever experienced. Our guide, James, along with the driver from Magunatip Holidays, were exceptional, and I would rate them a perfect 10/10. The efforts put into the orangutan sanctuary are truly commendable.
