Reviews
The visit was extremely well organized, beginning with a video showcasing the efforts of the Malaysian government and the OrangUtanuk charity. We paid 10MR for camera use, but mobile phone photos were free. When the mother and her baby arrived at the feeding station, I opted to savor the moment rather than take numerous pictures, which I will cherish in my memory. Our guide led us to the nursery where we observed the baby orphans being fed behind glass for their protection. They were delightful and full of energy. Kudos to the staff and volunteers for their impressive work in conserving these remarkable forest inhabitants. Thank you.
We had a fantastic experience with Sepilok Tropical Wildlife Tours. The trip was organized by Ridhwan at Rasa Ria Resort. We were picked up at 4:30 AM in a private car and taken to the airport. After a 45-minute flight, we arrived at Sandakan and joined two other guests from Australia for a full day of activities. Our first stop included coffee and a local breakfast treat, along with a restroom break. Next, we visited the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary. The animals roam freely in their jungle habitat while visitors are guided along elevated platforms and observation towers. Halim, our guide, was very knowledgeable and addressed all of our inquiries. Each orangutan has its own name and characteristics that the keepers recognize. We started with the baby feeding session, followed by watching the larger orangutans react eagerly when food was served. After a warm morning, we headed to see the Proboscis Monkeys, which are quite unique. At around noon, we enjoyed lunch at the Banana Cafe, which exceeded our expectations. It's important to keep in mind that some may expect high-end amenities in a jungle setting, not to mention the importance of restroom facilities. Next, we visited the Sun Bears, also known as Honey Bears. One bear made quite an impression by climbing over its enclosure, and we even saw a baby sun bear. We returned to see the orangutans again for their afternoon meal before heading back to the airport around 4:00 PM for our 5:15 flight, arriving home by 8:00 PM, just in time for a shower and dinner. Although the cost was about £220 each, which adds up with transportation and flights, we felt it was absolutely worth it.
The trip was expertly organized, with Mr. Amran and our wonderful female driver, Ann, picking us up in a comfortable air-conditioned bus. We reached Sepilok in time for the nursery viewing and the 9:30 feeding. After that, we visited the Labuk Bay Proboscis Sanctuary, where we observed the monkeys without the usual crowds. We enjoyed a nice lunch and relaxation at Sepilok Jungle Resort before heading back for the Sun Bears and the afternoon feeding. The afternoon had fewer crowds, but the animals were less active. While the tour was a bit on the pricey side, there were just four of us on the mini bus. Amran shared a wealth of knowledge about the primates. It was a memorable day, and I captured some wonderful photos.
