The half-day city tour is essential for anyone visiting Sandakan for the first time. It provides a comprehensive overview of the city’s highlights and helps you navigate its layout. Our guide Siti and driver Ahmad were outstanding; both spoke excellent English and were friendly, knowledgeable, and entertaining. We had engaging conversations, and I particularly appreciated that they didn’t rush us at any of the stops, allowing us to linger longer at certain sites if we wished. This flexibility is a great advantage of a private tour. For instance, we visited Sandakan Memorial Park the morning before ANZAC Day, which is significant for Australians as it is a day of remembrance. At the time of our visit, there was a rehearsal for the Dawn Service, and Siti kindly let us stay for that. Since ANZAC Day was the main reason for our trip to Sandakan, this tour and our time at the Memorial Park were perfectly timed and a major highlight of our journey. It was worth every penny.
The tour was fantastic, and our guide, Sita, was a delightful person with a wonderful demeanor. She was very knowledgeable about Malaysia and Sandakan, making the experience enjoyable. The driver, whose name I can’t recall, was also excellent. Overall, it was a great way to explore Sandakan.
The guide and driver provided a wealth of information. They adjusted the itinerary to match our preferences and assisted us with grocery items at the conclusion of the tour.
Our guide Siti, whose name I may not have spelled correctly, was fantastic—kind and exceptionally knowledgeable. My husband, a discerning eater, found her lunchtime suggestions plentiful. The driver was excellent as well. I have no complaints about our tour; we were truly impressed.
My tour guide, Faizhar, was exceptional. As a lifelong Sandakan resident, he provided in-depth knowledge about each historical site during this memorable half-day tour. Faizhar truly brought the experience to life. Before this, I had no idea about Sandakan or the WWII Japanese POW camp, where over 2,700 Australian and English soldiers were held, with only six surviving the horrific death marches through the Sabah jungles. It was eye-opening. I also learned about Agnes Keith, someone I had never heard of before, which was another enlightening part of the tour. The private tour of the Sim-Sim Water Village, where Faizhar grew up, was humbling and historically rich. Visiting the beautifully decorated Buddhist Temple for Chinese New Year, exploring the Central Market, and enjoying lunch at one of Faizhar's favorite local spots made for an unforgettable experience. He answered all my questions about Sandakan and each site we visited. I highly recommend this tour, especially with Faizhar as your guide. It's an experience you won't regret.
The tour guide and driver were friendly and spoke fluent English. They provided us with plenty of historical information about the sites we visited. Additionally, the vehicle was clean and comfortable, and having lunch included was a definite bonus.
I had an excellent time on the Sandakan city tour with guide Abraham and driver Izzab. We explored local markets, city villages, and Agnes Keith house. Both of them were supportive and fun, making the half-day tour truly memorable. We ended with a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. I highly recommend this experience.
We arranged a last-minute tour for two and our guide Sahar was fantastic. He was knowledgeable and an excellent tour guide. I would strongly recommend this experience.
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon with Sita exploring various attractions in Sandakan, such as the Chinese Temple, WW2 Memorial, Agnes Newton Keith House, and the floating market. Sita was charming and knowledgeable, making for a delightful experience. We had some spare time before our trip to the Kinabatangan River the following day, and this excursion exceeded our expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
The tour of Sandakan was both informative and engaging. I really enjoyed the lunch as well. Our guide was knowledgeable and displayed great enthusiasm throughout the experience.
