The visit to the Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre was fascinating, with a knowledgeable and friendly private driver. However, we were disappointed that lunch was not at a local restaurant as expected; instead, we had to eat at the cafeteria in the Sepilok orangutan center.
Our family of six had a wonderful day in Sandakan after being picked up and dropped off at the airport in a private air-conditioned van. Adam proved to be an outstanding tour guide—he was knowledgeable, attentive, and organized the day perfectly. We encountered many of Borneo’s Big Five wildlife. Our driver, Momang, was also excellent. This experience comes highly recommended.
This was an excellent excursion with plenty to see. Encountering the orangutans was truly amazing, and our guide was not only very skilled but also shared fascinating insights throughout the tour.
The experience was wonderful, and everything went smoothly. However, my guide was not very informative at some stops, which was disappointing, as I learned more from other guides nearby. When he did share information, it was excellent and he was responsive to my questions. Despite it being a private trip, the cost seemed quite high for one person, totaling over £130 for just under six hours in Malaysia, especially when considering travel times, entrance fees, and a basic lunch.

I attempted to contact the supplier multiple times the day before but received no response. Concerned about our 45-minute flight from Kota to Sandakan, I reached out to Viator for assistance. At 11 PM, they finally informed us about the airport pickup for the next morning, which was stressful since our flight was at 6:15 AM. After the driver picked us up and took us to the Orango Rehabilitation center, we were surprised during lunch. Despite it being included, we were told we had to pay for any meal that exceeded 20 Ringgit per person, and we ended up giving 50 Ringgit to the driver. He should have made this clear beforehand. In our experience as travelers, if a meal is advertised as included, there shouldn't be any additional costs. Now, we are left wondering if the driver kept the extra money. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.
This experience was incredible. I was fortunate to encounter a flanged male orangutan, a female with her baby, and several macaque monkeys. The rainforest was stunning, and there were numerous animals to observe. I saw sun bears climbing trees, and my tour guide, Sahar, was very knowledgeable about the animals and conservation. He made me feel safe and welcomed throughout the tour.
Siti was an excellent guide—humorous, approachable, and very knowledgeable. Her English was good, making conversation easy. Although the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre felt somewhat touristy for us, we gained valuable insights about the Sun Bears and their rehabilitation. Adding the visit to see the Proboscis monkeys turned out to be the standout moment of our day.
