Three to five hours on a fast boat — search for orcas, humpbacks, and more in small groups with guaranteed sightings.
This small group whale watching tour departs from Anacortes and lasts between three to five hours, utilizing some of the fastest boats in the region. This means you spend less time traveling and more time spotting whales in the waters around the San Juan Islands.
The tour guarantees whale sightings, ensuring that if you're not lucky, you can come back for free. The experience allows for a closer look at orcas, humpback whales, and other marine life in their natural habitat. Dress warmly for the outing and be ready for an adventure on the water.

I traveled from Kitsap and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The crew was friendly, attentive, and well-informed. It was great to have indoor seating for when it got chilly, while still enjoying the stunning views. The San Juan Islands are so beautiful that the trip would be worthwhile even without seeing whales or wildlife. We took the Port Townsend Ferry, so be sure to make a reservation and arrive 30 minutes prior to sailing. We had to hurry back to catch our ferry home and almost missed it. There isn’t much available on that side, so if we had missed it, we would have ended up bored and hungry—plan accordingly. However, there are plenty of dining options in Port Townsend on the way back home.
Tiffany and the Captain were fantastic, providing a wealth of knowledge about marine life. I truly enjoyed our trip.
We enjoyed an amazing experience, spotting orcas just two minutes after starting the trip. The crew was incredibly knowledgeable about the region and its wildlife.
We really enjoyed our tour with a crew that was both friendly and highly knowledgeable. Although we missed seeing orcas, we were thrilled to spot Sylvester the humpback whale and other wildlife, including harbor seals, steller seals, harbor porpoises, and various birds. I would certainly return!
The experience was unpredictable, but totally worthwhile! We were fortunate enough to witness two humpback whales engaged in a feeding frenzy, and on our return, we even spotted a solitary orca.
What an amazing trip! Captain Brock, along with Naturalists Kate and Bruno, was exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. We truly enjoyed the experience. We were able to see harbor porpoises, seals, sea lions, bald eagles, and of course, orcas!
It can be chilly, especially for older individuals. We wore three layers and still felt cold. Make sure to dress warmly and consider bringing a raincoat if you're visiting in October.
We traveled over 50 miles around the islands and encountered 2 Orcas, a humpback whale, sea lions, seals, and a sea otter. It was truly an incredible experience. The crew was friendly, engaging, and very knowledgeable about the region and its wildlife. I strongly recommend a trip aboard the Blackfish VI.
Our family, which included two middle-aged adults, two young adults, and a teenager, traveled from Seattle and thoroughly enjoyed our outing. We explored different areas of the boat, moving around to take in various views. The indoor space was a nice refuge from the chill, but the best sights were clearly outside. While we didn’t spot any humpback whales, we were lucky enough to witness two Orca hunts. The crew was excellent—friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable. I suggest bringing binoculars and a camera with a telephoto lens if you can. Due to regulations regarding how close we could get to the whales, we needed to keep our distance during the hunts. My smartphone camera didn’t capture the moment as well as I had hoped, and I truly regretted not having my DSLR due to limited packing space. I highly recommend this tour and the company.
My husband and I experienced an unforgettable day on this tour, highlighted by several successful whale sightings. The crew was exceptionally helpful and eager to answer our questions. The views were stunning, and the ocean felt rejuvenating.
