Half-day tour from Friday Harbor — get close to orcas and other marine wildlife in the San Juan Islands, a short boat ride from Seattle.
This whale watching tour departs from Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, well-known for its abundant marine life, especially orcas. The tour offers an opportunity to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat during a half-day excursion.
Easy to access, Friday Harbor is a manageable day trip from downtown Seattle. While the primary focus is on watching orcas, you may also spot other wildlife such as seals and various seabirds. Dress in layers and be prepared for changing weather conditions, as it can be chilly out on the water.

I feel incredibly fortunate that they could take in last-minute participants! The crew is excellent at spotting whales and educating us on the significance of protecting wildlife. We saw several orca pods and many humpback flukes!
We kicked off the whale watching season in 2026 and were fortunate to spot three killer whales along with numerous seals on the rocks. Our naturalist, Kelly, was very knowledgeable, and the friendly captain, Gabe, and Pete made the experience enjoyable. Even with our young children, ages three years and nine months, we had a wonderful time. We plan to return in the summer!
Fantastic experience. Encountered a variety of wildlife, including multiple whales. The staff was excellent and provided us with plenty of information. I would definitely do it again without hesitation.
The narration was excellent, and we spotted four killer whales, sea lions, and bald eagles. It would have been better if the interior cabin had heating and the bathroom was stocked with paper towels. Although the four-hour tour lasted only three hours, we saw a lot and had a great time.
Having my cousin visit from DC for a short vacation was the perfect excuse to check something off our bucket list! The captain and naturalists were both entertaining and knowledgeable. We spotted four orcas, sea lions, seals, and a bald eagle with its chick. Goose Island was brimming with various birds as well. Grateful to the captain and crew for a fantastic experience. Sherryl
We took a tour on Friday afternoon with family from the UK. Having previously gone on a tour last summer with friends, we could easily compare our experiences. We encountered a pod of Orcas up close, just like before, but our naturalist, Abby, stood out with her energetic and knowledgeable approach. She eagerly shared insights, and her joyful attitude made our trip even more memorable. I highly recommend this tour, especially if Abby and Captain Tom are your guides; you're guaranteed to have a fantastic time.
We visited in April and unfortunately did not spot any whales. We did see some other wildlife, but it might have been too early in the season for whale sightings. Spending a lot and not seeing whales raises concerns. On the positive side, the people and the tour company were very friendly.
Abby, Kelly, and Captain Vaughn provided an outstanding experience. They located a family of whales for us to observe.
This was an excellent trip. We saw a lot, including eagles, humpback whales, and a group of orcas. It was truly amazing, and the crew demonstrated great knowledge. I highly recommend it.
We had an incredible time with Olivia and Vaughn during our trip to the San Juan Islands last weekend. We spotted multiple pods of orcas, sea lions, and bald eagles. Olivia, the onboard naturalist, was highly knowledgeable and eager to answer all our questions. We were fortunate to witness a family of orcas hunting, which was an unforgettable thrill. Vaughn, as our skipper, extended our time on the water to enhance our experience. The enthusiasm both he and Olivia displayed added to the enjoyment. They also prioritized the well-being of the orcas, ensuring we maintained a respectful distance from the wildlife.
