Two to three hours kayaking at sunset and under the stars, observing bioluminescent sea life in Griffin Bay.
This kayak tour runs for two to three hours, beginning with a sunset paddle in Griffin Bay, where you can spot harbor seals, roosting birds, and more. As darkness falls, the waters around you come alive with bioluminescent sea life, creating a striking contrast to the starlit sky.
Participants need to complete waivers directly with Outdoor Odysseys before the tour. Prepare for a memorable evening on the water; dress appropriately for the conditions as it can get chilly once the sun sets.
Reviews
Several companies provide this tour, but Outdoor Odysseys stands out with the best reviews. Our guide, Meg, delivered a five-star experience. She was organized, knowledgeable, and friendly, making our evening on the water truly enjoyable. Thank you!
The operator confirmed the event was still on just 30 hours before, despite poor weather forecasts, which led us to keep our hotel and ferry reservations. However, they canceled the event 11 hours prior, leaving us no time to change our plans, which included a nonrefundable hotel. While we did receive a refund for the event from Viator, it felt like a poor decision on the operator's part, possibly to avoid issuing refunds themselves.
I had a fantastic time! Hannah was a wonderful tour guide who ensured we grasped how to use the equipment and kept us warm. Despite a slightly cloudy night, we still enjoyed the stunning bioluminescence in the water.
The kayaking trip to see bioluminescence was fantastic. It was an unforgettable experience that went beyond our expectations, providing a perfect introduction to sea kayaking as first-timers. The small group, quality gear, and the fun, patient guide made Outdoor Odysseys truly impressive.
This was an incredible experience. I really enjoyed it. The interactive nature of the bioluminescence was thrilling, and our guide was both entertaining and well-informed.
Everything was stunning! I was captivated by the evening sky, reflections, nightscape, and bioluminescence. The staff was friendly, and it truly felt like a secure and relaxing experience.
I had an amazing experience in a stunning location. The biodiversity was rich and plentiful. The water was calm, and our guide was extremely helpful in getting us prepared and on the water. It was truly a perfect outing.
There was no prior warning about the need to carry our two-person kayak approximately 100 feet to the water. As two women aged 70 and 75, this was unexpected, especially since other companies provided kayak carts or had five younger men to assist with carrying. This was completely unacceptable.
This excursion was fantastic! My husband and I celebrated our honeymoon in the San Juan Islands, and it was the best part of our trip. Our guide was well-informed and guided us to the best locations for witnessing the stunning bioluminescence. It's truly an indescribable experience and absolutely worth it. (Taking photos of the bioluminescence is challenging, so I have no images to share, but that only emphasizes the need to experience it firsthand.)
Justin and Eddie were fantastic guides. It was truly a special experience. The bay felt incredibly serene and peaceful. We had the entire area to ourselves as we were the only group there. I had a great time discovering numerous beautiful spots of bioluminescence. I'm very pleased that I booked this experience.
