My wife and I traveled specifically from Barcelona to learn from Raúl due to highly positive feedback about his expertise. During our tours of Arapiles and Medina de Rioseco, he began with an overview of the War of Independence before guiding us to significant battle sites, allowing us to visualize and comprehend the conflicts. Raúl possesses an exceptional knowledge of the terrain, troop movements, uniforms, and the experiences of both common soldiers and leaders. His deep passion and thorough study of the period shine through. He effectively explains complex battle situations in an engaging and straightforward manner, helping us grasp critical details that enhance our understanding of events. Additionally, his treatment of us was always courteous, and he adeptly addressed all our inquiries. We wholeheartedly recommend his tours, as few experiences compare to hearing Raúl discuss history, especially the War of Independence.
Raul tailored the tour to meet my requests, allowing us to trace the actual path taken by our ancestors during the battle. Great work.
Raul, our tour guide, is an expert historian with an impressive depth of knowledge. He conveys the experiences of the soldiers, officers, and generals before, during, and after the Battle of Salamanca. He highlights the impact of the terrain, communication hurdles, and key decisions that contributed to Wellington's victory, which played a crucial role in Spain's independence from Napoleon. The tour showcases the landscapes utilized by both sides and the distances involved in moving troops and supplies. Each viewpoint included in the tour reveals its own narrative.
This tour was fantastic, led by our guide Raul, who possessed remarkable knowledge of the battle and skillfully shared it with us. I highly recommend it to anyone.
Raul customizes tours to suit your needs, providing a competitive price. I shared my focus on family history, and he tailored the tours to highlight my ancestor's potential involvement. We explored Fuentes de Onoro and the Siege of Ciudad Rodrigo one day, followed by the Battle of Salamanca the next. Raul provided door-to-door service from my hotel in Salamanca. Although April was hotter than expected, Raul adjusted the itinerary when he noticed I was tired. In hindsight, splitting the tours over three days may have been better, but my schedule didn't allow it. His extensive knowledge, friendly demeanor, and excellent English brought history vividly to life. He's contributed to information panels and has access to closed sites. I gained valuable insights and am inspired to delve deeper into the Peninsular War. I'm very satisfied with having chosen this private guide over a group tour and wholeheartedly recommend Raul.
This tour was excellent, and Raul demonstrated a thorough understanding of the battle and its geography, including a visit to a great local museum. The information was presented clearly, making it enjoyable even for those who aren't history enthusiasts. It's a must-do experience.
Our tour on June 21, 2025, with my wife and another couple began with Raul meeting us at 9:30. As we stayed near the Roman Bridge in Salamanca, we walked to the bridge where he described the bombardment of the three fortified convents blocking allied access. We then moved on to the actual battle site, where Raul used pictures, diagrams, and the views to provide a detailed account of the battle's events. The battlefield spans 8.5 kilometers, and we explored various sites, including the summit of Greater Aripiles. Raul was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the battle’s significance in Spain's struggle for independence. Our experience included a delicious lunch and a visit to a nearby informative museum. For anyone interested in Wellington and the Peninsular War, this is a must-do. Just a heads up, it is an extensive 8-hour day, so bring plenty of water and wear comfortable shoes. It was a fantastic experience with an excellent guide, making it very worth the cost.
We had a fantastic day. Raul was the perfect guide we had hoped for. The battlefield's size and terrain made the entire event easy to comprehend.
Raul provided an outstanding experience. I appreciated his use of maps and images, along with his detailed explanations of the battle at various sites. His extensive knowledge of the soldiers and the surrounding history was impressive. The museum was well-organized, and Raul went above and beyond to assist us.
This tour was a captivating experience. Raoul's extensive knowledge and excellent English made the journey through the events leading up to the battle, during the battle, and the aftermath very engaging. I could visualize the day as it unfolded and grasp the reasons for various events. At age 70, my fitness level didn't hinder me from accessing all the tour sites. I highly recommend this tour to anyone with even a slight interest in history, whether military or not. I truly enjoyed my day!
