• The Sultan Qaboos Mosque stands prominently in the city center, hosting numerous worshippers for prayers daily since its inauguration in 2009. Inside, a stunning crystal chandelier hangs from a meticulously decorated 36-meter (118-foot) dome, and a 20-ton hand-woven carpet featuring 115 million individual knots adorns the floor. The mosque’s landscaped grounds offer a tranquil area for relaxation. Non-Muslims may tour the interior from Saturdays to Thursdays between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.; modest attire is required, and women must cover their hair. • Next, visit Khwar Al Balid, a lagoon named after the ancient city located on its banks. Historically, this lagoon was linked to the sea and acted as a natural port due to its varying depths. This area is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the lagoon is protected, highlighting its archaeological, historical, and natural significance. The archaeological park is the first of its kind in the Sultanate, aimed at safeguarding natural resources, attracting tourists, and raising awareness about the ancient city within the Dhofar Governorate. • After exploring Al Balid, proceed to Luban Market (Al Hafah Market), a traditional market recognized as an economic and tourist focal point in Salalah. Located 3 km from Salalah city amidst coconut trees, this market is well-known for its incense and frankincense products, along with a variety of offerings including traditional textiles, clothing, jewelry, and numerous other local goods. It is considered the oldest market in the Dhofar region. • Finally, we will visit the coconut groves of Salalah to appreciate the lush greenery, which can be seen along the route from Salalah to Dharis Beach. This area is primarily cultivated with bananas, papayas, sugarcane, and various vegetables. You will have the opportunity to learn about agricultural practices in Salalah and walk through the cool soil between the crops.
