What's the itinerary?+
• The itinerary begins with a visit to Taqah Castle, located in the old fishing town of Taqah, known for its dried sardines and traditional Dhofari mud houses. This historical site served as the residence of the Wali (Governor) and now functions as a museum featuring various displays that highlight the city's rich history and the ancient lifestyle of its inhabitants. You will have the chance to see the nearby watchtower on the hill adjacent to the castle. • Afterwards, you will head to a stunning rocky cliff at the end of Taqah's coastline, which stands approximately 15 meters high and offers beautiful views of the Indian Ocean and Taqah city. This vantage point is ideal for enjoying the refreshing ocean breeze, capturing great photos, and potentially spotting dolphins swimming beneath the cliff. • The next destination is Wadi Darbat, recognized as a stunning natural site and one of the top two tourist locations in Dhofar. This valley is famous for its spring that feeds a picturesque lake, along with seasonal water activities available post-monsoon, such as pedal boating, speed boating, and kayaking. The area is lush with greenery, features delightful waterfalls, and provides an excellent environment for relaxation. You may also encounter local herds of camels, cows, and goats in the area. • Following Wadi Darbat, you will travel 20 minutes to the sinkhole area known as Tawi Attair, or "well of birds." This significant karst formation features limestone walls that plunge 211 meters deep. Your guide will provide insights about the site and take you to a viewpoint where you may observe the sounds of various birds nesting in the cliffs. • Next, you will visit the giant Tabaldi Baobab Trees, scientifically referred to as Adansonia digitata, situated in Wadi Hinnah within the Samhan mountain range. Unique in form, these trees, which can reach heights of up to 25 meters and diameters of 2 meters, number about 200 in Dhofar. Primarily found in Africa, particularly Madagascar, they provide a rare opportunity for memorable photography. • A 15-minute drive from the baobab trees leads you to a site featuring a curious gravity phenomenon. Here, you can witness the unusual effect where a stretch of road appears to incline upward, causing a vehicle in neutral to roll uphill. • The final stop is at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sumhuram, which contains the preserved remnants of an ancient city situated on a hill overlooking the Indian Ocean. Dating back to the 5th century BC, this site highlights the historical significance of Sumhuram as a key port for the Dhofari frankincense trade. An information center on-site offers a six-minute video showcasing the city’s ruins and providing context about the historical relevance of the area.
