This felt more like a costly taxi ride than a tour. We anticipated gaining insights about the stunning area, but our guide Abdul provided less information than what we could gather from a family member or Google. It's not worth it; spend your time exploring the town, enjoying lobster, and you'll thank us later. Very disappointing.
The bus driver took corners too quickly, making us feel unsafe. Although the tour guide was friendly, they lacked proper preparation. The stop at the Bay of Fundy was so crowded that we couldn't get lunch.
Henry, our driver, was exceptional. He showed great knowledge of the area and was very accommodating. I highly recommend this tour to others, and I've already shared my recommendation!
This was far from a worry-free shore excursion. Our pickup at the cruise port was supposed to be at 1 PM, but the tour started at 12:30 PM. When the driver returned after I called, he wanted my wife and me to sit in the cramped third row of the SUV, which was not feasible for a 4-5 hour tour given my height of 6'2". He even asked a previous bus tour to wait 15 minutes to drop us off, causing dissatisfaction among over 30 bus passengers. The bus tour guide, a nice older woman, didn't offer much in the way of informative commentary. The bus driver made a stop to see a lighthouse and covered bridge but neglected to inform passengers that he had parked a quarter of a mile away, which left us searching to find the bus. Due to delays, they almost skipped the final stop at the Reversing Falls, but when passengers requested it, they allowed a brief 10-minute stop at what turned out to be the tour's highlight.
Visiting the reversing falls at different times was a highlight, allowing us to see the flow change directions, which was impressive. The drive to the caves was uneventful, but the caves themselves were enjoyable. I was glad I had the right footwear to navigate the creek to reach them. It's important to time your visit with the tide being halfway out or more to access the caves, and water shoes are advised. The hour-long bus ride might not be suitable for young kids due to potential motion sickness. Bring a snack, as the wait for food at the caves is lengthy.
Our group was quite small, just five of us, which allowed for a flexible itinerary based on our interests. A key highlight was visiting the Reversing Falls at two different times to observe the tidal changes. We also explored the caves at St. Martin's, where I enjoyed the freshest haddock fish and chips from a seafood shack.
The tour of St. John was fantastic. Our guide, Keith, provided a mix of entertainment and deep knowledge about the Bay of Fundy and its history. We began at the Reversing Falls Rapids, where we captured photos of the rapids' speed. Next, we visited the quaint village of St. Martins, known for its covered wooden bridges and charming scenery that felt like stepping back in time. On our return to the ship, we stopped once more at the Reversing Falls Rapids to witness the incredible phenomenon of the rapids changing direction. It was a remarkable experience.
We had an excellent experience. Our guide, Keith, was very knowledgeable and made an effort to connect with each guest. We witnessed the reversing tides and saw both the incoming and outgoing phases. Greg, our driver, worked seamlessly with Keith, keeping us entertained throughout. St Martin was impressive, particularly the sea caves. The Cave restaurant served delicious chowder and fish and chips, and we ended our meal with ice cream from the Octopus shop. They returned us to the ship with plenty of time to spare. Overall, it was a fantastic excursion that I would highly recommend.
The tour's standout feature was witnessing the reversal of the Saint John River at different tides. Our guide thoroughly explained the phenomenon, and we visited in the morning and later to observe it directly. In the meantime, we explored the Bay of Fundy, which was incredible to see and understand the significant tidal changes. All in all, it was a fantastic day.
We were thrilled to finally reach the renowned Bay of Fundy after two weather cancellations. Our guide was invaluable in explaining the tides; without him, we might have missed witnessing nature at its wildest. The fish and chips were fresh and tasty, though pricey, as expected at a tourist destination. There are not many tourist souvenirs available, so be prepared. Sturdy walking shoes are necessary. I highly recommend this visit.
