The experience felt more tedious than a true tour, mostly involving time spent in a cramped SUV with a guide who pointed out sights through dirty, partially open windows. There was a lot of silence while driving; we only stopped at four locations. At the Donner Party site, we were left to explore on our own as the guide stayed with the vehicle. He remained with the car at another spot by Lake Tahoe, where a stranger kindly took our photo. Although he did step out at Donner Lake to take our picture, the sights weren't particularly impressive. The third row of the SUV missed much of the tour, unable to hear the guide or ask questions. Given the $1000 price, I anticipated a guided tour experience on a bus, with constant interaction from the guide, leading to a memorable outing. Instead, my kids ended up playing on their phones while we sat in the back of the SUV. It was a significant letdown.
Bill provided an outstanding experience from beginning to end. We enjoyed a great city tour of Reno before heading along the tragic Donner party trail. This led us to the Lake Tahoe region, where we made multiple stops to appreciate the stunning scenery, including a visit to the Donner Memorial State Park and monument. There, we explored a small museum that offered deeper insights into the Donner party. Overall, I highly recommend this tour to everyone. Thank you, Bill.

Our guide, Jim, was exceptionally knowledgeable about the trail. With just my husband and me on the tour, he offered snacks and drinks while we drove along the trail, gaining a deep understanding of the difficult journey these individuals faced. We explored the museum and visited Lake Tahoe, taking several breaks to appreciate the stunning views of the lake and the majestic mountains. Jim was flexible with our tight schedule, which we truly appreciated. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour for its rich history, breathtaking scenery, and the chance to witness a piece of America's remarkable story.
Jim was an excellent tour guide, showcasing the towns we visited with engaging historical tales that even captivated my 15-year-old son. He graciously accommodated two older women who wished to continue sightseeing despite the heavy snowstorm. I would gladly take this tour again in perfect weather. Jim is a skilled driver who knows the best spots to stop.
The driver should use a headset for communication with passengers, as we missed some of the information provided.
