• According to Hindu texts, the revered Pushkar Lake is referred to as ‘Tirtha Raj’, the top pilgrimage site. A pilgrimage is seen as incomplete without a ritual bathing in the holy Pushkar Lake. This semi-circular lake, approximately 8-10 meters deep, is encircled by 52 bathing ghats and over 400 temples, making it a stunning visual landmark. • The temple dedicated to Goddess Savitri, the first wife of Lord Brahma, is located on a hill just behind the Brahma temple. The ascent through numerous steps to reach this temple allows visitors to enjoy a panoramic view of the lake, adjacent temples, and sand dunes. This temple's existence stems from Savitri’s curse against Brahma for marrying another goddess, Gayatri, while initiating his yagna in Pushkar. • Jagatpita Brahma Mandir is the temple honoring Lord Brahma, the Hindu God of Creation, conveniently situated near Pushkar Lake. Although the ancient site is around 2000 years old, the prevailing structure is from the 14th century. Pushkar features more than 500 temples, with the Brahma temple being the most significant. Legend states that Brahma selected this location to hold a yajna on earth. In the 8th century, philosopher Adi Shankara invested in its renovation, but the present structure is attributed to Maharaja Jawat Raj of Ratlam, who made repairs and some modifications. The temple's inner sanctum is dedicated to Lord Brahma and his second wife, Gayatri. Constructed from marble and stone slabs, its red pinnacle (shikhara) is visible from afar, and the temple showcases a unique hamsa (bird) motif. During Kartik Poornima at the Pushkar Fair, the community celebrates a festival in homage to Brahma, and devoted pilgrims visit this temple after purification in the sacred Pushkar Lake. The Brahma temple is acknowledged as one of the top religious sites globally and is regarded as one of the five essential pilgrimage locations for Hindus.
