The Providence Murder Mystery Detective Experience was an excellent outing in downtown Providence, RI. Using the app was straightforward, the audio segments were entertaining, and the mystery posed a genuine challenge if you didn't stay focused. Although it could have incorporated more about the city's history and architecture, it didn't detract from the fun. It's advisable to ensure your phone(s) are fully charged and to wear comfortable footwear. My daughter and I took roughly an hour longer than the suggested 2.5 hours to finish. I highly recommend it!
The experience was enjoyable. The walking distances were manageable, and navigating the app was straightforward. It's definitely more enjoyable in pleasant weather; we faced 30-degree temperatures (cold) on the day we took part.
It was a thrilling experience when we identified the correct suspect as the culprit. The graphics were impressive, and the clues were thoughtfully designed.
I had high hopes for the murder mystery tour, but it felt unpolished. On the positive side, the voice acting was impressive, the app was user-friendly, and the storyline was well-crafted. However, it only deserves two stars because the mystery seemed to strongly favor one suspect, despite the eventual rationale being acceptable. The mystery relied solely on audio, meaning none of the stops influenced the narrative. We ended up finishing the tour at a park rather than visiting various other sites. The locations were underwhelming—a bank in a strip mall, an average hotel, a Walmart, etc. While they matched the story, it would have been better to integrate historical or notable local sites instead of these mundane spots. The riddles at each location quickly became uninteresting, and we shifted our focus back to the story. It was an enjoyable experience, but more of a phone app than a true excursion. The location felt unnecessary for what we sought. To improve, I suggest linking the story to unique local sites or histories, encouraging interactions with distinctive places, or converting the entire experience into an app. If opting for the app route, hiring an illustrator and adding interactive elements like videos and evidence images would enhance engagement beyond audio. Overall, the concept has promise but requires refinement. I think an interactive app format with promotion on platforms like YouTube would be more suited than presenting it as a tour.
The starting point was unreachable due to ongoing construction and entering was prohibited. I couldn't participate in the activity, which was quite disappointing.
The experience was quite dull and felt mechanical. I found it difficult to engage with the voices, as they lacked any emotional expression. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience.
The activity was both entertaining and challenging, providing a tour of a significant area in downtown Providence. While it was enjoyable to participate, some of the clues were ambiguous regarding what to search for. Overall, it was a fun experience.
