Luis served as our tour guide and truly impressed us with his extensive knowledge of history. He ensured everyone was well cared for and shared many fascinating stories about Progresso, Mexico. The 6-hour bus ride, with a few stops, felt like it went by quickly. Choose this tour with Luis; it’s definitely worth it.
The guide was excellent, and I enjoyed the experience overall. The weather was favorable, allowing us to see everything, including the flamingos and the salt collection site. I recommend this tour.
My husband and I are seasoned travelers and typically have great experiences with our excursions, but this recent tour was extremely disappointing. Once our ship docked in Progreso, finding the tour guide was a challenge. We wandered around the terminal asking for directions and trying to locate a building that matched the picture sent by the driver, but we never found it. After much effort, we finally connected with the driver who was waiting at a corner outside. Being in an unfamiliar place made this situation very stressful. We anticipated a comfortable van or bus for sightseeing with other tourists. Instead, we received a small, old, and dirty car, and although our driver was nice, his English skills were limited. The tour we were eager for did not go as advertised; instead of the promised 4-hour experience, we had only 3 hours. We visited flamingos, a salt pan, and the Xcambo Mayan Ruins, but there was no trip to the El Corchito Ecological Reserve, no swim in cenotes, and no beach visit. This was not at all the experience we were looking forward to, and we believe we deserve compensation for the letdown, but our request for any reimbursement was declined.
I had a fantastic day starting with a pickup just outside the Duty-free shops. Our guide, Abraham, along with driver Allahadra, took us to the salt flats, flamingo lagoons, cenote pools, Maya ruins, and a beautiful all-inclusive resort right by the beach. I would absolutely repeat this, as there are so many sights and activities to enjoy.
The sanctuary featuring raccoons and cenotes was quite fascinating. I appreciated their commitment to preserving the area in its natural form. The market ruins were also enjoyable. However, I would have preferred more historical context about the locations.
