Two hours of kayaking on Casco Bay — enjoy the sunset views with a guided trip suited for all skill levels.
This two-hour kayak tour around Casco Bay is an excellent way to experience the stunning colors of sunset while gliding across calm waters. Suitable for paddlers of all abilities, the route typically begins in Portland harbor, extending toward the islands of Casco Bay for sweeping views as you return towards East End Beach.
The exact path may vary based on weather and group preferences, but you can expect a leisurely experience with the calming backdrop of the fading light. Tours will only be cancelled during steady rain or strong winds, so some light showers or cooler temperatures won’t deter your adventure. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing suitable for paddling.

The Sunset Kayak tour with Portland Paddle was a fantastic experience. The equipment was ready for us, and the instructions were clear. Our guide shared extensive knowledge about the area and engaged with all participants. They provided additional support to a first-time kayaker in our group. We would certainly choose another tour with Portland Paddle.
Our guide Joe was exceptional. Although we had experience kayaking, this was our first time in a bay and in a double kayak. Before we set off, he reviewed the basics with all of us. Despite the looming thunderstorms, he ensured we stayed near the shore while keeping the experience enjoyable. We were impressed by how he remembered everyone's names. He made my daughter, the only teenager in the group, feel at ease and welcomed. We appreciated the interesting historical facts he shared about Portland and the Bay. I highly recommend this experience.
We had a wonderful tour with Sam. We ventured into Casco Bay, where we spotted seals and an osprey nest that had an osprey in it. We also saw a porpoise. Sam was an excellent guide, and the weather couldn’t have been better. This experience was definitely a highlight for us.
Tom was an excellent guide who effectively taught the less experienced kayakers in our group. The weather was wonderful, contributing to an unforgettable sunset.
The introductory lesson led by Joe was very informative. He and the ground crew were efficient and supportive. A young woman assisting was thrilled to hear about the playful seal that swam around and even brushed against a kayak for pets. The group was enjoyable and engaging. The rudders on the tandem kayaks were a useful addition. The weather was beautiful, making the time spent in the cove a delightful experience. Joe's insights on the wildlife and fort added to the enjoyment.
I had a wonderful experience. The guide was both knowledgeable and helpful. I would definitely go again. It would have been nice to have the choice between single or tandem kayaks.
Avoid booking through Viator. They failed to send our reservation to Portland Paddle, leaving us unable to attend due to capacity limits. While Portland Paddle was gracious and tried to accommodate us quickly, I recommend booking directly with them instead of through Viator.
Sunset kayaking in Portland, Maine, was the ideal way to kick off my trip. Our instructor, Joe, was incredibly knowledgeable and provided helpful instructions before we set out. This experience is suitable for beginners and those with some kayaking experience. Joe guided us to see seals, an Osprey nest, and the stunning sunset. When two people in our group chose to leave early, Joe made sure to keep everyone together so no one got lost. It was a fantastic experience with an unforgettable sunset on a beautiful day. I highly recommend this activity.
We had a wonderful time on this tour! Joe was very friendly, and the kayaks were in great condition. The staff was incredibly kind and ensured our bags were secure at the desk. It was a fantastic paddle, and we would love to return for the city line paddle. On this trip, we did the seal paddle and spotted a few.
Portland Paddle comes highly recommended for its stunning sunset views and encounters with seals. The staff is knowledgeable and fun, ensuring a very safe experience. The setting at East End Beach is lovely.
